Description

June 1967 o. A. BILEZERIAN 3,325,003
PACKAGED TREATED TISSUES Filed 001". 15, 1965 0660? 19 I Bziezrz'an United States Patent 3,325,003 PACKAGED TREATED TISSUES Oscar A. Bilezerian, 40 Barnard Road, Worcester, Mass. 01605 Filed Oct. 15, 1965, Ser. No. 496,612 2 Claims. (Cl. 20657) This invention relates to a combination of a package for tissues such as are commonly stacked or interfolded and sold in boxes, and which may be withdrawn one-byone from the box, wherein the tissues are impregnated with some material which may be medicated, aromatic, etc.
The invention consists in one part in providing an impervious package for said tissues and means for opening the impervious package easily so as to retain the aromatic, medicated, etc. material in said tissues and not allow it to escape into the atmosphere. Another part of the invention relates to the provision of coating the impervious material going to form the package, with concentrated aromatic or medicated material so that the tissues when packaged, although initially they are completely free of any of these materials, soon become impregnated therewith and the longer they are held in the package, the more they become impregnated with the aromatic or medicated material which coats the package or the liner for the same, thus making a very easy way of providing the impregnated tissues.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating the package, and
FIG. 2 is a plan view illustrating how the tissues are wrapped in the impervious material and receive the aromatic or medicated material therefrom.
Tissues of the type used in the present invention are well known and on sale almost everywhere under many different trademarks. These tissues are used as wipers, for handkerchiefs, etc. and once used are of course easily disposed of. They are often folded in such a way that when one is removed from a box it will bring the lip or initial portion of the succeeding one in view where it is easily grasped when it is desired to use another one. In some cases other package features facilitate extraction of the tissues. In any event, such tissues usually are sold in cardboard boxes having perforated openings so that they are easily opened to expose the topmost tissue.
In the present invention however the tissues are initially wrapped in an impervious sheet which is indicated at a stack of tissues being indicated at 12.
The sheet of impervious material 10 is conveniently cg. aluminum foil, plastic, or the like flexible and easily handled material and it is initially provided as in continuous sheets with a relatively copious amount of concentrated aromatic or medicated material or whatever material is desired to be imparted to the tissues. This material is applied to the impervious sheet at one side only thereof and the tissues are wrapped therein in any desired manner but preferably so that the stack of tissues is completely encompassed on all six sides thereof.
3,325,003 Patented June 13, 1967 When this package has been formed, it is then boxed in the usual cardboard box 14 which also as usual may be provided with a lid or the like 16 which is easily opened to expose the impervious material 10 through the opening 18 formed by the lid 16.
The foil or plastic etc. is easily disrupted and as a matter of fact it may have a tear strip of well known construction, or even very small perforations which do not go all the way through, in order to open the impervious sheet as shown in FIG. 1 in dotted lines at 20 for instance whereupon of course the tissues easily are accessible to the user.
When the package has been made as described, i.e., when the stack of tissues has been wrapped with the aromatic or medicated side of the sheet 10 closely encompassing it, it is only a short time before the tissues become fully impregnated with whatever the material that is used. The tissues are absorbent, and that being one of their functions, to provide an absorbent tissue disposable at the convenience of the user.
The tissues thereby becoming impregnated with the aromatic or medicated material as may be desired, it will be seen that this effect is never lost until the package is sold and not only the lid 16 opened but also the foil is ruptured. However, even though the foil is ruptured and the tissues have been started to be used, the lid 16 can always be replaced so as to prevent undue escape of the aromatic or medicated vapor into the air.
For this reason it will be seen that not only is the package extremely easily prepared, but will not lose the aromatic or medicated vapor for as long as the package is used; whereas if it were not for the impervious material, even though the tissues were impregnated with some aromatic material, the same would easily escape through the joints and even through pores of the usual cardboard material in which these tissues are packaged.
Examples of the active ingredients for impregnating materials are camphor, menthol, spirits of turpentine or ammonia, oil of eucalyptus, cedar, nutmeg, thymol, among others, and combinations.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I claim is:
1. A package for tissues comprising a box having an openable and resealable lid, a stack of tissues, and an impervious covering extending over all sides of the stack of tissues within the box, the tissues being impregnated with aromatic or medicated material, the impervious covering being openable in the area under the lid.
2. The package of claim 1 including a coating of the aromatic or medicated material on the inner surface of the impervious covering.
