Sept. 26, 1967 G. MARONDEL DISPLAY CONTAINER Filed Feb. 10, 1965 INVENTOR Gl J ENTHER MARONDEL FIG. 2
ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,343,659 DISPLAY CONTAINER Giinther Marondel, Erlangen, Germany, assignor to Dynamit Nobel Aktiengesellschaft, Troisdorf, Germany Filed Feb. 10, 1965, Ser. No. 431,649 Claims priority, application Germany, Feb. 14, 1964, D 28,499 1 Claim. (Cl. 20645.31)
The present invention relates to a container package, and more particularly to a shipping and display container for articles adapted to be stacked within the container.
Known in the prior art are shipping packages or containers which are so constructed that they can also be used as sales packages or containers. One can remove with such prior art constructions the articles directly out of the package displayed in the sales room without having prior thereto to take the same out of the package and stack the same for purposes of sale.
The present invention is concerned with a novel parallelepipedic shipping and sales package or container for boxes and similar articles adapted to be stacked, and essentially consists in that it is composed of a parallelepipedic shipping container part, open at the top thereof and provided along one long side with an aperture extending to within proximity of the bottom, and of a case-like cover part adapted to be placed over the open container part. The package or container, propertly speaking, which is provided with the aperture, allows a clear recognition after installation in the salesroom of the articles which can be readily removed in the upward direction, whereas the case-like cover placed over the package or container produces a stability of the package favorable for the shipment thereof. A quite good and stable structure is obtained in accordance with the present invention already with relatively small wall thicknesses of the container and cover.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a package of the type described above which can be used as shipping and sales container for articles adapted to be stacked without requiring the removal of the articles out of the container or package for purposes of exposing the same for sale to the public.
Another object of the present invention resides in the provision of a simple two-partite shipping container or package that can also be used as display container or package, yet can be made of relatively thin-wall material without sacrifice in the rigidity of the structure thereof.
A further object of the present invention resides in the provision of a multi-purpose, two-partite container assembly which obviates the need for removing the articles out of the container prior to display thereof to the public, yet permits a clear recognition of the articles when displayed in the salesroom while still in the container.
These and further objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which shows, for purposes of illustration only, two embodiments in accordance with the present invention, and wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a two-partite, multipurpose container in accordance with the present invention, and
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of a modified embodiment of a case-like cover for use with the multi-purpose container of FIGURE 1.
Referring now to the drawing and more particularly to FIGURE 1, the package or container in accordance with the present invention is illustrated therein with the caselike cover partially lifted. The packing container is designated in FIGURE 1 by reference numeral 1 and has the shape of an open parallelepiped whose forwardly disposed long side 2 is provided with an aperture that terminates at 4 in an edge close above the bottom 5. A case-like cover 6 adapted to be slipped over the container 1 serves for purposes of cover for the container 1. In the fully assembled condition, the cover 6 extends up to approximately the bottom edge of the container 1. In this condition, the package is ready for shipment. In the sales room the cover 6 is removed so that the articles are clearly recognizable through the aperture 3 and can be directly removed out of the container 1 in the upward direction.
FIGURE 2 illustrates a modified embodiment of the case-like cover 6. In this embodiment, the cover 6 is appropriately provided with a window 7 suitably covered by a foil or sheet of any suitable transparent material so that also with a closed package the contents thereof are recognizable from the outside.
While I have shown and described two embodiments in accordance with the present invention, it is understood that the same is not limited thereto but is susceptible of numerous changes and modifications as known to a person skilled in the art and I therefore do not wish to be limited to the details shown and described herein but intend to cover all such changes and modifications as are encompassed by the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A two-partite, multi-purpose shipping and display package of parallelepipedic shape for boxes and similar articles adapted to be stacked, comprising a parallelepipedic shipping container part which is open at the top thereof, only one of the sides of said container being provided in a major portion with only one aperture open in the direction toward said top and extending to within proximity of the bottom, and a cover part of complementary shape to said container part so as to be adapted to be slipped over said container, said cover part having side Walls substantially coextensive with said container part side walls when said cover is slipped over said container and a non-transparent relatively stifi top wall covering the entire top area of said cover, said aperture in said container being of such a size as to leave margins along the three remaining sides of substantially equal width, said display window being of such a size as to leave in said cover in the sides thereof corresponding to said one side four margins of substantially equal width corresponding to the first mentioned width.
