SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,633, dated January 19, 1886.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is an exterior side'view of the improved coal- Fig. II is a front view of the same without the wheels. Fig. III is an exterior side View showing the body of the wagon extended and the hopper in two positions.
A. is the hopper of the wagon, and B an extensible wheeled frame formed of the sections a and b. These sections a and b rest one upon the other, the one, a. being on top, and their extension and contraction are effected by means of a chain,'0, chain-head d, sheave e, and suitable gearing adapted to operate the (-hain-head, as hereinafter fully described. The chain passes around the chainhead d and the sheave e, which are on suitable shafts on the lower section, b, of the wheeled frame B, and is attached to the upper section, a, at f. The rotation of the chain-head, whereby the upper section is drawn either forward or backward, is effected by the gear-wheel g and the pinion h, the latter being provided with a crank, i. The hopper A is supported directly by the upper section, a, of the frame, and is carried with it as the same is moved outward, (see Fig. III,) and when the frame is extended the overhanging section a is supported by the legs 0 G, which are preferably of the folding order, as shown in Fig. III. I do not limit myself, however, to the particular description of supports shown for sustaining the section a of the frame, as. various other devices could be employed for the purpose.
D D are standards on the section a of the frame B, having sheaves k at their upper ends. Chains Z extend from winding devices E over the sheaves k to the ends of levers F, which have their fulcra at m on the upper section of the frame. The levers F are connectedto the hopper A by means of pivotal bolts n, consequently when the said levers are raised by means of the chains 1 the hopper is carried with them. (See Fig. III.) The desired inclination of the hopper is effected by the secondary levers G, pivoted to the hopper at o and to the frame at p. The winding drums E are on a shaft, g, which is revolved through the medium of the gears r and s and the crank t.
H H are segmental guide-bars for the levers F, two of which are attached to each of the standards I), to support them from the section a of the wheeled frame. The levers F are situated between the guide-bars, as shown in Fig. II.
I claim as my invention In a dumping-wagon, the frame B, formed of the upper and lower sections, a and 1), arranged to be extensible, as described, hopper A, and levers F and G, pivoted to the hopper A and the section a, combined with the standards D, and a chain and winding apparatus,
