Description

(No Model.)
w. GLOW. ANGHORING DEVICE FOR WIRE FENCES.
No. 338,037. Patented Mar. 16, 1886.
N. PETERS, Phmol-ihwomnV/MRQ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM M. OLOIV, OF EAST \VHEATLAND, ILLINOIS.
ANCHORING DEVICE FOR WIRE FENCES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,037, dated March 16, 1886.
Application filed January 12, 1885. Serial No. 152,588.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM M. GLOW, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at East \Vheatland, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anchors for fire Fences, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in anchors for wire fences, for the purpose of maintaining proper tension of the fence-wires and preventing the sagging of the t'enceposts, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and claims, reference being had to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing a pair of anchors applied to the fence. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the anchors detached from the fence and having a doublehooked plate at each end. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the hooked anchorplates. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the manner of attaching the anchor-cable to the tightening-stake.
Referring to the drawings, 0 represents a wire cable.
Bis a metal plate, having an aperture, D, at or near its center, through which to pass the end of the cable 0, as shown in Figs. 2
and 4. The plate B terminates at each end in (No model into the ground, thus drawing the cable 0 up taut and giving proper tension to the fencewires.
The manner of attaching the anchor-cable 0 both to the post R and to the stake P is shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The end of the cable is passed around the post, and the hook a on one end of the plate B is hooked back upon the body of the cable, as shown. The attachment of the cable 0 to said plate is made by passing the end ofthe cable through the aperture D of the plate so far that its end can be caught by and clasped under the body part of the cable as the same is brought around the side of the plate and placed under one of its hooks.
\Vhcn it is desired to lengthen or shorten the anchor-cable C, it may be let out or pulled through the aperture D as far as may be necessary.
This anchor may be applied to any wire fence at any place along its length or near the corners, as shown in Fig. l, and is of great service in tightening up and holding taut the fence-wires, for when no such anchor or analogous means are used the posts will sag over, especially in the spring, and permit the fencewires to hang loose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
In combination with the wires of a fence, the posts It, the cable 0, the tightening-stake P, and the plates B B, each having the hooks a at each end turned in the same direction, and each having the central apertures, D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
\VILLIAM M. CLOXV.
