MOSS United States Patent This invention relates to a body-worn disposable urinal and is more particularly directed to a urinal for the male, whether he be child or adult and adaptable for use by individuals whether ambulant, reclining, sitting, standing or abed sleeping or awake.
The embodiment illustrated by the drawings and explained in detail hereinafter, comprises generally of a collar through which the male organ protrudes and which collar is held in position by straps that encircle his waist and thighs, adjacent to the right and left crotch and having a pair of telescopically positioned plastic bags fastened to the collar in a substantially liquid-tight fashion. The inner bag directing the flow of urine into the outer bag.
The inner bag is provided with a simple flutter valve that guides the urine into the outer bag and at the same time prevents the back flow of urine from the outer bag into the inner bag, so that no matter what position the wearer assumes, urine cannot flow back into the inner bag, nor can urine escape from the outer bag.
Therefore, a principal object of the present invention is to provide a body-worn urinal which is particularly suited for receiving a male organ in a comfortable manner and allowing the safe and sanitary accumulation of urine discharged by the person wearing this device or by persons whether children, adolescents or adults who are habitual bed wetters while asleep.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a urine collecting device having an inner and outer plastic bag that are disposable and very light in weight supported by a collar which is readily sanitized, all of these parts being fastened by belts for properly maintaining the device on a persons body in a liquid-tight condition.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a urine collection device for persons who are incontinent, which device is highly sanitary and most elfective to collect and retain urine without spillage or leakage whether the person is standing, seated, reclining or while asleep in bed.
Another and further object of the present invention is to provide a disposable urinal which is economical in the cost of manufacture as well as in the replacement of the parts by the wearer during normal use of the urinal and one which permits the quick and simple detachment of r the plastic bags and the quick, simple and easy attachment of fresh plastic bags.
With these and other objects in view, the invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals are used to designate similar parts throughout the several views the numeral 10 refers generally to my disposable urinal shown strapped in position on a persons body which is illustrated by dotted lines. The disposable urinal 10 which is constructed in accordance with my invention consists of a collar or coupling member C, an inner disposable bag I and an outer or urine collection bag B, all of which are fastened to a persons body as shown by FIGURES 1 and 2 by a plurality of body engaging straps.
The collar C is a substantially rigid body made of plastic and the like consisting of a cylindrical portion 12 through which a bore 13 extends along its full length. The cylindrical portion 12 is provided with a peripheral flange 14 at one end, a wide peripheral groove 15 at its midportion and a narrow peripheral groove 16 at its other end.
As best shown by FIGURE 5, the flange 14 of the collar C is provided with three slots 17, 18 and 19; slots 18 and 19 each approximately 90 degrees away from slot 17.
The midpositioned slot 17 receives a strap 20 which extends upwardly to a Waist encircling belt 23 where the end 21 loops over and around the belt 23 and is adjustably fastened to a conventional buckle 24 secured to the other end of the strap 20. The belt 23 is a conventional belt provided with a buckle 28 that is secured to one end of the belt 23 and which receives an end 29 of the belt 23.
The slots 18 and 19 each receive a leg encircling belt 25 whose ends are provided with buckles 26 that receive the free end 27 for adjustably securing the straps 25 about the legs of a person to hold the collar C firmly in position against the pelvis region and support the base of the male organ comfortably within the bore 13.
Secured to the collar C are the inner disposable bag I and the urine collection bag B both of which are fastened at their upper ends for receiving urine discharged by the male organ therein. The inner disposable bag I and the outer urine collection bag B are made of an inexpensive plastic film material such as Pliofilm or the like which may be cut to the desired pattern or shape and heat sealed along their edges or manufactured by any other conventional process to form pliable water-tight receptacles except for a discharge passageway 30 in the end or outlet portion 31 of the inner bag I.
The inner bag I which is cylindrical in shape at its upper end as at 32 then becomes bell shaped as at 33 with downwardly tapering end walls 34 for draining urine into the end portion 31. By heat sealing along the edges as at 35 a water-tight chamber 36 is formed with an opening at the top portion 32 of the inner bag I and a discharge outlet 30 which operates as a flutter valve to permit urine to flow into the chamber 36 at the top portion 32 and be discharged from the inner bag I through the discharge outlet 30 but not permit the back flow of urine through the discharge passageway 30 from the chamber 37. The inner disposable bag I is fastened to the collar C by telescopically positioning the upper end 32 over the groove 16 of the collar C and placing a resilient O-ring 38 on the end 32 of the bag I.
The outer urine collection receptable B which forms a watertight chamber 37 for collecting the urine that flows from the chamber 36 through the discharge passageway 30 is provided with a neck portion 40 at the upper end encircling the collar C. Ihe urine collection bag B has tapering side edges as at 41 which are heat sealed as are the lower side edges 42 terminating in a bottom edge 43. The bottom wall of the chamber 37 formed in the bag B is made by heat sealing some short distance above the bottom edge 43. Transverse slots 45 formed in the bag B between the heat sealed edges 43 and 44 receive a strap 46 which encircles the persons leg or thigh as best shown -by FIGURES 1 and 2. An adjustable belt buckle 47 similar to buckles 26 and 28 is fastened to one end of the strap 46 and receives the other end to fasten the urine collection bag B to thepersons leg.
The neck of the urine collection bag B is removably secured in a watertight fashion in the groove 15 of the collar C by a clamp 50 made of flexible metal or plastic. The clamp 50 consists of a flexible band portion 51 at whose ends are a loop 53 and a dog 52. Pivotallv mounted on the loop 53 is one end of a rectangular shaped hinge member 54 whose other end is likewise swivelly mounted at one end of a clamp handle 55. The other end of the clamp handle 55 is provided with a catch 56 which engages the dog 52 for releasably securing the clamp 50 about the neck portion 40 of the outer bag B within the slot 15 of the collar C.
The clamp 50 forms a quick and simple fastening member for securing the bag B to the collar C in a liquid tight fashion and permits the facile removal of the urine collection bag B when it is desired to dispose of the urine in the bag B and replace the collection bag 3 by another similar bag.
From the above description of my disposable urinal 10 taken in connection with the drawings, it is readily seen that the urinal 10 may be positioned on a male persons body in a manner comfortable to the user whether ambulatory or reclining in bed. The urinal 10 is most effective in collecting the urine without any leakage or back flow through from the outer bag B to the inner bag I. Also, the urinal bags B and I are disposable and economical in cost while the collar C may be sanitized as often as desired. Please note that the male organ comes into contact with only the collar C which maintains the male organ in a comfortable position andwhich collar is readily sanitized preferably each time the collection bag B becomes filled with urine and the bags B and C are replaced by clean and sanitary bags of the same kind.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A disposable urinal for male p'ersons comprising a collar having a substantially axially disposed opening, a flange portion mounted at one end of said collar, said flange portion having a plurality of slots, strap means engaging said slots and encircling a persons waist and his legs for securing said collar in position adjacent said persons crotch, said collar having a plurality of substantially peripherally disposed grooves, an inner bag of substantially waterproof pliable material having a throat portion at one end telescopically positioned on said collar, resilient strap means encircling said throat portion at one of said peripheral grooves securing said inner bag, flutter valve means at the other end of said inner bag permitting flow of urine solely in an outward direction, an outer urine collection bag of waterproof pliable material, said bag having a chamber and a throat portion at one end telescopically positioned on said collar, removable clamp means removably securing said throat portion to said collar at the other of said peripheral grooves and elongated strap means engaging the other end of said outer urine collection bag and securing said bag to the leg of a person.
2. The structure as recited by claim 1 wherein said first named strap means comprises an elongated pliable member extending through a pair of said slots and around the legs in proximity of the persons thighs, a buckle mounted on one end of said strap means and releasably engaging the other end for securing said collar at the personscrotch and a further elongated pliable member extending through another of said slots positioned between said pair of said slots, said further elongated pliable member having a buckle at one end and said other end engaging a waist encircling belt and received by said last named buckle for adjusting said collar at said crotch.
3. The structure as recited by claim 2 wherein said outer bag engaging clamp means comprises an elongated pliable member, said chamber of said outer urine collection bag terminating in spaced relation to said other end of said outer bag, said other end of said outer bag having a plurality of slots receiving said last named elongated strap means, a buckle mounted at one end of said last named elongated strap means, said last named elongated strap means encircling said leg and having its other end received by said buckle for releasably securing said outer bag to said leg of said person.

A DISPOSABLE URINAL FOR MALE PERSONS COMPRISING A COLLAR HAVING A SUBSTANTIALLY AXIALLY DISPOSED OPENING, A FLANGE PORTION MOUNTED AT ONE END OF SAID COLLAR, SAID FLANGE PORTION HAVING A PLURALITY OF SLOTS, STRAP MEANS ENGAGING SAID SLOTS AND ENCIRCLING A PERSON''S WAIST AND HIS LEGS FOR SECURING SAID COLLAR IN POSITION ADJACENT SAID PERSON''S CROTCH, SAID COLLAR HAVING A PLURALITY OF SUBSTANTIALLY PERIPHERALLY DISPOSED GROOVES, AN INNER BAG OF SUBSTANTIALLY WATERPROOF PLIABLE MATERIAL HAVING A THROAT PORTION AT ONE END TELESCOPICALLY POSITIONED ON SAID COLLAR, RESILIENT STRAP MEANS ENCIRCLING SAID THROAT PORTION AT ONE OF SAID PERIPHERAL GROOVES SECURING SAID INNER BAG, FLUTTER VALVE MEANS AT THE OTHER END OF SAID INNER BAG PERMITTING
