SPRAYING DEVICE ENCLOSURE Filed July 11, 1966 FIG.1.
flue/ear Geeeue INVENTOR.
atom g United States Patent Office 3,420,412 SPRAYING DEVICE ENCLOSURE Aubrey Greene, 169 E. 69th St., New York, N.Y. 10021 Filed July 11, 1966, Ser. No. 564,269 US. Cl. 222-78 Iutl. Cl. B67d 5/64 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to covers or enclosures for spraying devices and more particularly to cover means applicable to pressurized spray cans or bottles and which by application of finger pressure on a plunger will eject or spray their liquid contents.
While many of these cans, bottles and similar receptacles are externally decoratedin various ways to enhance their appearance, their use in various parts of the home makes it desirable for them to be rendered unobtrusive and possibly more decorative than they appear when they are simply exposed to open view. This is particularly true when the cans or bottles are exposed to view in such places as the boudoir, bed room or bath room.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a cover or enclosure which constitutes a concealing means for containing or housing a spray can or similar receptacle and which covering or enclosure can be made that not only will it completely cover and conceal the can but will provide decoration or embellishment for it and to such an extent that the identity of the can will be lost.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a cover which can be made to simulate the appearance of a doll, an animal or bird, or any living creature, or a distorted caricature of any object, person or thing desired and which will not only arouse interest, but also can be decorative and possibly cause amusement while effectively concealing the spray can.
It is another object of the invention to provide a cover in an attractive form which will not only conceal its spray-can contents, but which will permit the usual spraying out of the contents of the can and without requiring the removal of the can from its covering for that purpose.
More particularly, the invention contemplates the provision of a preferably soft and flexible covering which may be in the form of a hollow body simulating the body of a doll, animal, bird or other known object or thing and particularly one of amusing or decorative nature. The hollow interior of the body is sufliciently large to receive and completely enclose, cover and conceal the body of a standard type of spray can, bottle or similar pressurized receptacle. The upper end of the covering, which may be shaped to represent the head of the simulated animal, bird or the like, receives the operating plunger of the spray can and said head portion is provided at the back of the covering with an opening through which a finger can be inserted to reach and depress the plunger of the spray can. As an alternative,
3,420,412 Patented Jan. 7, 1969 said head portion can be made sufliciently soft and flexible to permit it to be distorted by finger pressure. Hence in the latter case, when this portion of the covering is depressed, the plunger being disposed under it, the plunger will be resultantly depressed and the spray will be ejected out of the spray nozzle with which the can is provided. The nozzle is aligned with an opening in the covering, and which opening can simulate the mouth or bill of the animal, bird or the like and from which the spray or mist will emanate.
With these and other objects to be hereinafter set forth in view, I have devised the arrangement of parts to be described and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, wherein an illustrative embodiment of the invention is disclosed,
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a spray can covering constructed in accordance with the invention;
FIG. 2 llS a rear elevational view of the same; and
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view, taken substantially on the line 33 of FIG. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates the body of a conventional type of pressurized spray can, bottle or other known receptacle such as presently used for containing disinfectants, deodorants, hair preparations, perfumes and other sprayable liquid preparations. Such can or like receptacle is provided at the top with the conventional plunger 2 which, when depressed, will project a spray. or mist of the contents out of the can from the nozzle indicated at 3.
The covering for the can is generally indicated at 4 and in the form shown the same consists of a hollow body preferably composed of a soft and flexible material such as a pile fabric or the like and of a size to provide a hollow interior or cavity 5 within which the body of the can 1 can be contained and completely hidden from view. The canmay be entered into the covering through the opening 6 provided at the lower end of the same. The opening 6 can be contracted below the bottom of the can if desired by means of an elastic cord 9 encircling the opening 6.
The covering may be made in many decorative forms, such as for example, in the form of a small animal such as a dog, cat, bird, cartoon character or in various other forms, an example of which is illustrated in the drawing.
When the can is positionedwithin the covering and appears as shown in FIG. 3 it is hidden and concealed by the covering. At this time, the plunger 2 of the can will be located adjacent to the upper portion of the covering or within the head portion 13 of the same. The covering may, as a whole, be composed of the soft and flexible material heretofore mentioned or the head portion 13 alone may be so composed.
Provided in the rear of the covering and in the head portion thereof is an opening 8 located behind the plunger 2 so that a finger 12a inserted through said opening 8 will have access to the plunger to depress the same. As an alternative, the top of the head portion 13 can be depressed so that when finger pressure is imposed on thetop of the head portion 13, the plunger 2 located below it will be depressed and the spray or mist will be ejected out of nozzle 3. The covering is provided with an outlet opening 11 which is registered or aligned with the spray nozzle 3 so that the spray or mist ejected from the nozzle will pass out through the outlet opening 11. Such outlet opening 11 may be the simulated mouth or bill 12 of the animal, bird or other object which the covering represents.
The covered can or container can be stood on end when in the covering and when this is done the figure will represent a standing figure pleasantly decorative in any room while functioning to provide the convenience of having a spray can at hand without being obtrusive.
Means may be employed within the covering to definitely locate the spray can, and in FIG. 3 is shown an elastic loop 10 secured to the covering behind the outlet opening 11 and extending around the plunger 2.
The feet shown at 7 may be used merely for the purpose of decorating the fingure or they may be used to stabilize the device when it is stood on end.
Having thus described an embodiment of the invention it is obvious that the same is not to be restricted thereto, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
What I claim is:
1. A covering for a spray can of the type which includes a container having a plunger at the top for controlling the spraying of a fluid from within the container, a spray nozzle from which the fluid is ejected by the depression of the plunger, a covering within which the container is housed and concealed, said covering externally simulating the body of a living creature, the plunger being disposed in the upper portion of the covering, the covering having a rear opening for the insertion of a finger to reach and depress the plunger to thereby cause ejection of fluid from within the container, the covering having an outlet through which the fluid emanating from the nozzle is ejected.
2. A covering for a spray container according to claim 1, the covering comprising a hollow, flexible cover shaped and embellished to represent a living creature, said covering having a contractible lower opening through which a spray container is inserted to position it within the covering, a loop on the interior of the covering embracing the plunger on the container, the rear opening in the covering being located behind the plunger.
3. A spraying device according to claim 1, wherein the covering has its outlet located to form the mouth of the simulated living creature and the spray nozzle is aligned with said mouth so that the spray from the nozzle passes therefrom and out of the mouth.
