Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. SCHOLFIEL-D, OF LAWRENCE, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,271, dated January 28, 1862.`
.To all whom't't may con/cern,.-
Be it known that I, JOHN F. SCHOLEIELD, of Lawrence, in the county of Essex, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new apparatus to be attached to a Weavers shuttle for the purpose of delivering the weft or filling free from kink to the web in Weaving cloth; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of a Weavers shuttle with the apparatus attached. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the apparatus for producing friction on the weft-thread on leaving the shuttle.
The apparatus A A, Figs. 1 and 2, is located in the throat of the shuttle in a vertical position between the tube B and the point of the spindle C.
d, Figs. 1 and 2, is an elevated shell, forming a half-circle, more or less. e is an elevation in the form of a Wedge projecting inward near the inner surface of the shell d, both of Which-the shell and the elevation-are con nected at the bottom in a circular base.
f, Fig. l, is a cap of yarn secured to the spindle C.
g is a tube communicating with the tube B aifording a passage for the yarn to pass from the shuttle.
The operation of this apparatus in the throat of the shuttle on the yarn as it passes from the cap to the Web is as follows: As the yarn leaves the spindle C by means 0f the velocity of the shuttle, the yarn being fastened in the web, it comes in contact with the right lip of the shell d, and is guided by the Wedge e toward the inner surface of the shell d, from Which it passes to the left lip of the shell d, producing thereby an angle in the thread, by means of Which all kinks are removed from the yarn before passing into the cloth through the tubes B and g.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The application of this device, made from either metal or any other suitable material, toa Weavers shuttle for preventing kinksin the weft While passing from the shuttle to the cloth, substantially as set forth.
JOHN F. SOHOLFIELD.
