Cl. 272-76 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to games and toys, and more particularly to a toy striking stick.

It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a toy striking stick for teaching a growing youngster the art of self defense.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy striking stick for enabling a child to develop a keen sense of alertness, coordination and correct reflexes.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy striking stick which may be used by the youngsters as a means of exercise and for training purposes in self defense.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a toy striking stick which is of rugged construction, virtually indestructible, safe to use, inexpensive to manufacture, may be moderately priced, and provides maximum utility to its user.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

According to this invention, a toy striking stick 10 is provided with a pair of elongated, handle members 11 and 12 which generally assume an upwardly converging, cylindrical configuration. The converging end portions of members 11 and 12 are provided with laterally positioned walls 11 and 12' emitting a cord 15 which is made of stretch and shock absorbent material, such as, rubber. The end portions of the handle members 11 and 12 are provided with spherical noise making or rattling members 13 and 14. As shown in FIGURE 2, a rattling member 14 is fixably secured to the expanded portion of the handle member 12 by means of a laterally disposed screw 14. The metallic rattling members 13 and 14, if desired, serve the purpose of inducing or the capability into each handle membering the use of the toy striking stick 10.

Looking now at FIGURE 6 of this drawing, one will see that, in its modified form, the invention provides for the handle members 16 and 17 which terminate at substantially conical configurations 16' and 17. In this arrangement, 16 and 17 are made of light weight, preferably plastic material and, like in the preferred embodiment, are provided with the rattling members 19 and 20. The upper portions of the handle members 16 and 17 are secured to each other by means of a stretchable, shock absorbing cord 18.

It will also be noted that the handle members 11 and '12 or 16 and 17 may be received within an elongated carrying case 21 which is provided with a closure member or flap 22. A snap-on securing arrangement 23 is provided on the flap 22 and the carrying case 21 for releasable securement to each other and thereby providing storage and carrying means to the toy striking stick. In addition, a loop 24 is provided on the rear side of the case 21 for afiixing the carrying case 21 to a body belt (not shown).

In operation, (FIGURES 13 and 14) for example, handle member 11 is held in the right hand and the handle member 12 is grasped by the left hand. Then the arms are positioned in a half stretched relationship in front of the users body at the chest height. Then the handle member 11 is positioned along the elbow of the right arm, when said elbow is in front of the users body and assumes an approximately horizontal position. Member 12 is then in a perpendicular relationship facing a downward direction. This arrangement is formed to counter or substantially reduce the impact of most of the blows, punches and/or kicks directed toward the body of the user of said toy striking stick 10.

While the toy striking stick herein shown and described in detail is fully capable of attaining the objects and providing the advantages etc., it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made providing that they do not deviate from the spirit and scope of this invention.

What I now claim is:

1. A toy striking stick comprising, in combination, a pair of elongated handle members, the end portions of said handle members each including transversely disposed holes, an elastic cord inserted into each said hole for securing said handle members to each other, said cord being of a length shorter than said handles, and a noise emitting rattler member being firmly afiixed to the free end portions of said handle members but providing audio output for said toy striking stick when said handles are disposed at different angles.

2. The combination according to claim '1, wherein said each handle member is of generally cylindrical configuration and progressively converges from one end to the 3 other so that said one end assumes greater diameter than said other end of said handle.

3. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said elastic cord is of shock absorbent rubber material.

4. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said rattler member is of generally spherical configuration and is provided with an outwardly extending screw for inserting it into said handle member.

5. The combination according to claim 1, wherein a carrying case having a snap-on flap being provided for receiving said toy striking stick therein, and a loop for affixing said carrying case to the belt of the user.
