REFLECTING-LANTERN.
Specification forming part of Letters Potent No. 35,194, dated May t, 1862.

YOUNG, n citizen of the lnitjed States oli' America, :nid :L resident of Dorchester, in the county ol,l Norfolk an d Stato of MzLsStLcl'iusetts, have invented Ln Improved Refiecting-Lzmtcrn5 und l do hereby declare the Same to be fully described in the following specification mld illustrated in the :tccompnnying drawings, ot' which- Figure l is :L side elevation, Fig. :2 :i longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 :L hmizontz'd :1nd transverse section, ol the said hintern.
It is customary to make the enses ol lanterns of glass blown in one entire piece and provided with openings and necks` both at top and bottom, those nt the top lbeing Afor the reception of :L metallic snniiki-hcap, while those :Lt the bottom are tor the introduction und IixzLtion of 2L ln mp. Such lanterns ithas been gcnenLlLvv deemed very dilticult iti' notimpossible to provide with 2L reflector, because the body of thehintern, being round and ol' glass, presented no easy means of supporting a rctteotor and fixing it in place.
ln carrying out nl v invention the glz'LSs body ot' the lantern is to be constructed with :L third or lateral opening and neck, and such neck to be provided with means of supporting a` reflector. On the neck 5L metallic cap or cover is to be placed, the handle or handles of the lantern being (Ltixed to Such cover.
In the drawings, A exhibits the glass body of the lantern, while B is its smoke-cap, fitted to the neck o ot' an, opening, o, made in the upper end ot' the said body. The lower end of the body is also furnished with an opening, c, made through n neck, d, for the reception of metallic ring e, which eilcompnsses it and is cemented on it'.
