Description

1970 R. M. GURNEY HYGIENE KIT AND CASE Filed July 1, 1968 l I I l l J Fly.4 I INVENTOR.
Puff; Mari/eve Gurney United States PatentO 3,524,690 HYGIENE KIT AND CASE Ruth Marilene Gurney, Anchorage, Alaska (P.0. Box 116, Cold Bay, Alaska 99571) Filed July 1, 1968, Ser. No. 741,799 Int. Cl. A47b 67/02; A47f /08 US. Cl. 312-245 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The main objective for a kit of the character described is to eliminate the unsightly hanging of personal objects on bathroom doors and end the use of the box on the water closet as a holder for hand towels, Kleenex, wash cloths and the like.
Other objects of the invention are the provision of a dual purpose kit especially adaptable to the orderly arrangement therein of the many and various articles essential to feminine hygiene and make-up, and to include in such kit a cabinet structure of pleasing appearance, light in weight, inexpensive to manufacture and requiring no special mounting fixtures.
A further and important object of this invention is the provision of a dual purpose kit and case of particular value to women in the service which must be ready to travel at a moments notice and where living accommodations often leave much to be desired in the way of room for many desirable items.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the act-ompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the specification and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a front view of the instant invention with the door in open position;
FIGS. 2 and 3 are front views of components of the invention, as will be explained; and
FIG. 4 is a front elevation of the traveling case unit of the invention, the removable front wall of the case being partly broken away.
In the drawing similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The kit in general is indicated by numeral 2. The cabinet body is preferably rectangular and may vary in size according to requirements. Its construction includes top and bottom walls 3 and 4 respectively, side walls 5 and 6 a rear wall 7 and is open at the front, a suitable door being shown at 8 as having hinge connection 9 along the front edge of the bottom wall 4. The cabinet may be of wood, a thin metal stamping or, and preferably, molded plastic. I
Patented Aug. 18, 1970 P CC The illustrated embodiment of the invention shows the cabinet member as divided by a pair of vertical partitions 10 into three compartments or sections 11, 12 and 13. Compartment 11 is for a syringe, the bag 14 of which is supported in an upright position against or adjacent to the rear wall 7 by the arms of a spring climp 15 while the hose or tube 16 is removably supported in the grooves of clip members 17 on the wall 7. The nozzle 18 of the syringe is shown as inserted in a suitably formed sanitized chamber 19 which may also be adapted to contain the hand syringe 20 of FIG. 2.
In the center compartment 12 are a plurality of drawers 21 for receiving loose accessories such as pins, sewing equipment, manicure instruments, etc. The drawers being provided with pull knobs 22 or the like. A shelf 23 provides with the top wall 3 and partitions 10 a chamber in which a plurality of articles such as glass or plastic bottles, toothbrush and lipstick holders, all generally indicated by numeral 24, which are held in place by a longitudinally extending resilient strap member 25.
Compartment 13 is for hand towels, Kleenex, sanitary napkins and like items or foldable material as seen at 26 in FIGS. 1 and 3 and shown as held in place by a vertically extending resilient arm 27.
As a means for supporting the cabinet upon a wall without the employment of special fixtures, the rear wall 7 is formed adjacent its upper edge with key-slots 28 adapted to removably receive shouldered protuberances such as screws, nails or hooks in the building wall. When the door 8 is closed it is held shut by any suitable means as one or more latches not shown. The kit as so far described may with other commodities be placed in most any traveling case.
However, as an additional unit in combination with the cabinet, the invention includes a special case 29, see FIG. 4, having a handle 30 and an open front, the latter being normally closed by a removable cover member 31 and secured to the body of the case by latches 32.
From the foregoing it is believed that the construction of the dual purpose kit, its advantages and usefulness have been made sufiiciently clear as to call for no further explanation.
What I claim is:
1. A dual purpose hygiene kit comprising a wall cabinet including top and bottom walls, side walls, a rear wall and having an open front, a door having hinge connection with the forward edge of said bottom wall, vertical partitions between said top and bottom wall dividing the cabinet into a plurality of spaced compartments, and means associated with each of said compartments for retaining without disarrangement the respective articles contained therein when said door is closed and the cabinet dismounted from its support for use as a travelling case, eyelets being formed in said rear wall for removably engaging supporting means projecting from the support upon which said cabinet is suspended, said compartments comprising three in number, one of said compartments being for a syringe including a bag and its discharge tube, another for a stack of foldable items, and an intermediate compartment including a set of drawers and a shelf, the latter for supporting a plurality of containers in upstanding position, said first compartment including a clip for suspending said syringe and bag in upright position adjacent to said rear wall, a plurality of grooved clips for removably supporting the syringe tube, and a sanitized container for receiving the nozzle of the syringe and a hand syringe, a vertically extending flexible article retaining member in the second named compartment, said flexible article retaining member being secured at its upper end to said cabinet and a lower end thereof being freely pivotable so to permit slipping articles outwardly from there behind, and a horizontal flexible strap in the said intermediate compartment for preventing the upstanding containers from falling from said shelf.
2. The combination with a dual purpose hygiene kit according to claim 1 of a traveling case for receiving the said cabinet, said case including a handle and having an open front, a cover providing a front for said case, and latches for removably securing said cover to the body of the case.
