Abstract

A RIGID, BOX-TYPE RECEPTACLE FOR MEDICAMENTS CONTAINS NUMEROUS SMALL DRAWERS SLIDING IN ONE DIRECTION AND A SINGLE, LARGER DRAWER SLIDING IN A SECOND DIRECTION. THE LARGE DRAWER IS PROVIDED WITH EXTENDING MEMBERS TO SUPPORT ROLLS OF SURGICAL TAPE WITH THEIR AXES EXTENDING VERTICALLY. A DOOR TO RETAIN THE SMALL DRAWERS IN PLACE OPENS HINGEABLY DOWNWARDS AND THEN SLIDES INWARDLY BELOW THE DRAWERS. A LID IS PROVIDED WHICH CONTAINS A PLURALITY OF SHELVES AND ADJUSTABLE PARTITIONS.

Cl. 312-209 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rigid, box-type receptacle for medicaments contains numerous small drawers sliding in one direction and a single, larger drawer sliding in a second direction. The large drawer is provided with extending members to support rolls of surgical tape with their axes extending vertically. A door to retain the small drawers in place opens hingeably downwards and then slides inwardly below the drawers. A lid is provided which contains a plurality of shelves and adjustable partitions.

FIELD This invention relates to a case or cabinet for containing medicaments and more particularly to such a case or cabinet which is a portable receptacle comprising both drawers and shelves. The receptacle is provided with a lid or closure which contains shelves, adjustable dividers and transparent sliding doors.

PRIOR ART Many references show various features but none is known which shows the specific combination.

SUMMARY A specific combination of elements is provided in a portable cabinet for containing medicaments. The device is particularly suitable for use by a trainer or medical aid responsible for treating athletes involved in an athletic contest such as a football game or basketball game.

Medicaments of the kind for which the container is particularly suitable are normally carried jumbled together in a bag or at best some are placed in pockets in a bag which are not necessarily the most suitable size While the remainder are jumbled together. Surgical tape in particular deteriorates if not carried in a suitable manner. It is often carried lying on the bottom of the bag either on its side or with its axis parallel to the floor of the bag. In the first case dust on the bottom of the bag adheres to the edges of the tape and in the second the roll of tape is flattened on one side and its adhesive qualities in the flattened area are impaired.

In the receptacle of the present invention a suitable drawer, shelf, or compartment may be provided for each individual medicament and surgical adhesive tape is carried in a properly disposed manner.

OBJECTS The object of the invention is to provide an improved container for medicaments.

Other objects will become apparent from the drawings and from the following detailed description in which it is intended to illustrate the applicability of the invention without thereby limiting its scope to less than that of all equivalents which will be apparent to one skilled in the art.

Referring now to all of the figures, a receptacle is provided comprising rear wall 1, front wall 2, left end wall 3, right end wall 4 and bottom 5. The opening at the top is defined by the upper edges of walls 1, 2, 3 and 4. A closure or lid member is provided to close said opening, said member being indicated generally as 6. Said member 6 may be connected to the upper edge of rear wall 1 by hinges 7 and comprises side walls 8, end Walls 9 and a top wall 10. Within the interior of the receptacle there are provided two closed compartments, the first of which comprises top wall 11 and end wall 12 and opens outwardly through end wall 4. Slideably received in this compartment is a drawer 13 provided with upwardly ex tending members 14, each of which is disposed to receive a roll of adhesive tape 15 as shown particularly in FIG. 9. Each of members 14 may comprise a strap of metal which extends upwardly from the floor of the drawer and is thence bent through and thence extends downwardly again to the floor of the drawer, the floor of the drawer being indicated as 13'.

A plurality of small drawers 16 slide outwardly toward the front and are contained within a compartment, within the receptacle, which is defined in part by back wall 17, top wall 18 and side wall 19. The opening in the front wall through which drawers 16 slide is closed by door 20 shown in FIG. 1 in the closed position and in the other figures in opened and partially retracted position. It opens by hinging downwardly at its bottom edge as indicated schematically in FIG. 2 and thence slides inwardly into space provided, first into the position shown in full lines in FIGS. 5 and 6' and thence into the position shown in dotted lines in FIG. 6, indicated as 20'. The space between the walls 1 and 17 and above wall 11 is particularly adapted to receive a plurality of aerosol cans disposed in a row as indicated by dotted lines 21 and the space between walls 3 and 19 extending upwardly from bottom 5 may be adapted to receive a row of comparatively tall bottles as indicated by dotted lines 22.

Walls 23 and 24 may extend upwardly from the inner edges of wall 18, being respectively upward extensions of walls 17 and 19, so that top 18 of the compartment containing drawers 16 may serve as a tray to hold further medicaments.

Extending inwardly from top wall 10 of member 6 there may be provided walls or supporting members 30, 3'1, 32, 33, 34 and 35 which may serve as compartment walls and also as supports for moveable shelves or partitions 36 which may be moveable into positions such as indicated by dashed lines 36'. The means for supporting said partitions is conventional and for simplicity is not shown. Means may be provided as shown to support transparent plastic sliding doors 37 to close the compartments provided by walls 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36.

The device may be provided with a rod 40 hinged to member 6 at 41 and extending downwardly through the device to lock drawer 13 closed in a manner well known and therefore not shown for simplicity.

Lugs 43 may extend outwardly from walls 30 and 32 and may have straps 44 hingedly attached thereto at 45. Straps 44 may have a projection or bent portion 46 at the end of each. Straps 44 may extend downwardly through lugs 47, each of which may extend inwardly respectively from walls 3 and 4 and each of which may be provided with apertures 48 to receive straps 44. Portions 46 of straps 44 act against lugs 47 to maintain closure member 6 in the upright position illustrated or in any other desired upwardly extending position when closure member 6 is in the open position.

The device may be provided with latch 50 to maintain member 6 in a closed position, latch 50 comprising portion 51 attached to member 6 and portion 52 attached to wall 2, and may be provided with carrying handle 54.

It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that numerous modifications of the apparatus described may be made without departing from the intended scope of the description. For the purpose of accomplishing the above described objects the claims are intended to include such modifications as may be made within the limits defined by the claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A receptacle for medicaments comprising two end walls, a front wall, a back wall and a bottom wall and having an opening defined by the upper edges of said end walls, said front wall and said back wall.

and a closure member,

said closure member hingedly connected to the upper edge of said back wall,

said closure member comprising two side walls,

two end walls and a top wall,

the bottom edges of said closure sidewalls and closure endwalls disposed to register with the upper edges which define said receptacle openan opening in the lowermost portion of one of said receptacle end walls, and

an opening in said front wall, and

within said receptacle a tape drawer compartment, and

a second compartment containing a plurality of small drawers,

said tape drawer compartment opening outwardly through said opening in the lowermost portion of one of said receptacle end walls, and

containing a tape drawer received therein through said opening,

said tape drawer provided with a plurality of upstanding members, each of said upstanding members disposed to be received in the hollow core of a roll of surgical adhesive tape,

4 said second compartment opening outwardly through said opening in said front wall and provided with a space below said drawers,

a door to close said large opening in said front wall, said door hingeable outwards about its bottom edge and, when hinged outward to a horizontal plane, slideable into said space below said drawers.

2. In the device of claim 1, side walls extending upwardly from the upper outer edges of the top of the second compartment to provide a tray on the top of said compartment.

3. In the device of claim 1, each of said upstanding members comprising a flat member of metal extending upwardly from the floor of said drawer, thence bent through and thence extendnig downwardly to the floor of said drawer.

4. In the device of claim 3, said receptacle adapted to receive a plurality of aerosol cans on top of said compartment containing said tape drawer and behind said compartment containing said plurality of small drawers.

'5. In the device of claim 3, said receptacle adapted to receive a plurality of tall bottles standing on the floor of the receptacle and extending upward between the end of the tape drawer compartment and the end of the receptacle opposite the end in which the tape drawer is received.

6. In the device of claim 3, said top closure provided with a plurality of compartments defined in part by partitions which are adjustable in position and covered by sliding transparent doors.

7. In the device of claim '1, said receptacle adapted to receive a plurality of aerosol cans on top and said compartment containing said tape drawer and behind said compartment containing said plurality of small drawers.

8. In the device of claim 1, said receptacle adapted to receive a plurality of tall bottles standing on the floor of the receptacle and extending upward between the end of the tape drawer compartment and the end of the receptacle opposite the end in which the tape drawer is received.

9. In the device of claim 1, said top closure provided with a plurality of compartments defined in part by partitions which are adjustable in position and covered by sliding transparent doors.

.10. In the device of claim 1, said top closure hinge ably operable about its rear lower edge and provided with means to maintain it in an upwardly extending position when open.
