Oujevolk ABSTRACT: A knob for an umbrella stick comprises an adapter having an opening for accommodating the stick and a pair of opposing shoulders, an intermediate member having spaced-apart windows and a recess to accommodate the bot tom portion of the adapter, and a locking member having a pair of spaced-apart hooks which are inserted through the windows to engage the shoulders thus maintaining the knob in the assembled state.
KNOBS FOR UMBRELLA STICKS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a knob for an umbrella stick.
In the prior knob it has been required to fasten the opposite ends of a cord to the knob by some type of fastening means. However, in order to improve the appearance such fastening means should be concealed, but this requires a complicated construction.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore an object of this invention to provide an improved knob having means for readily fastening the cord to the knob.
Briefly stated, the knob constructed in accordance with a preferred embodiment of this invention comprises an adapter having a control opening adapted to receive an umbrella stick, and a pair of shoulders on the opposite sides of the central opening; an intermediate member provided with spaced-apart windows and a recess to accommodate the bottom portion of the adapter; and a locking member including a pair of spaceapart hooks which are inserted through the windows to engage said shoulders thus maintaining the knob in the assembled state.
The hooks are also utilized to anchor the opposite ends of a cord without the necessity of utilizing any fastening means.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING In the accompanying drawing:
FIG. i is a plan view of an adapter for an umbrella stick;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of the adapter taken along a line III| in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a plan view of an intermediate member;
FIGv 4 is a sectional view of the intermediate member taken along a line IVIV in FIG. 3;
FIG. 5 is a plan view ofa locking member and FIG. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view of the assembled knob of this invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the accompanying drawing, as shown in FIGS. l and 2, the adapter for receiving an umbrella stick is of a generally rectangular configuration when viewed from above. At the center of the adapter is provided a raised rib 2 with a central opening 3 to receive the umbrella stick. A pair of rectangular perforations 4 and 4 are provided on the opposite sides ofthe opening 3 and opposing shoulders 8 and 5' are provided in the perforations 4 and 4' to cooperate with the locking member to be described later. Wedge shaped ridges 6 and 6' are formed on the lower surface of the adapter I and a depression 7 is formed on the upper surface thereof.
An intermediate member 8 is in the form of a shallow rectangular dish and is provided with a bottom plate 8' having spaced-apart windows 9 and 9' and a raised peripheral edge 8" to define a recess 10 for receiving the bottom portion of the adapter 1. The under side of the bottom plate 8' is recessed as at I] to receive the locking member to be described hereunder.
The locking member 12 also acting as a lid comprises a plate 12' provided at its center with a recess 13 adapted to accommodate the bottom plate 8 of the intermediate member 8 and a pair of upright hooks I4 and 14' on the opposite ends. Thus, the central portion of the locking member 12 underlying recess 13 is thin so that hooks l4 and [4 can be resiliently flexed toward each other.
To assemble the knob, first, a stick of an umbrella, not shown, is fitted in the opening 3 of the adapter 1, then the adapter I is received in the intermediate member 8 and finally, the locking member 12 is inserted from under. Thus, hooks l4 and 14' are inserted through windows 9 and 9 to engage shoulders 5 and 5' with snap action due to the aboveescribed resiliency of the locking member 12. Before inser tion of the locking member the opposite ends of a suitable cord 15 are anchored to the hooks I4 and I4, the cord extending outwardly through the gaps between ridges 6 and 6' and hooks l4 and 14'. As a consequence, no fastening means is required to connect the cord to the knob as in the prior art knob. Moreover, the knob can be assembled and disassembled very easily.
What I claim is:
I. A knob for an umbrella stick comprising an adapter having an opening adapted to receive said stick and a pair of opposing shoulders; an intermediate member provided with spaced-apart windows and a recess to accommodate the bottom portion of said adapter; and a locking member including a pair of spaced-apart hooks which are inserted through said windows to engage said shoulders thus maintaining said adapter, said intermediate member and said locking member in the assembled condition.
2. The knob according to claim I wherein said adapter is provided with wedge shaped ridges at the bottom thereof and said intermediate member is provided with a recess to accommodate said ridges.
3. The knob according to claim 2 wherein said shoulders are formed on the inner side ofsaid wedge shaped ridges.
4. The knob according to claim 1 wherein said locking member comprises a flexible lid plate so as to permit said hooks to engage and disengage with snap action.
5. The knob according to claim I wherein said hooks are utilized to anchor the opposite ends ofs cord.
