Abstract

An appliance for collecting urine from a male patient, the appliance comprising a rubber tube fitted over the penis of a male patient, the tube being connected to a receiving container at the upper end of the outlet tube secured by straps to the person''s body, and the lower end of the outlet tube being connected to a collection container which can be periodically emptied.

MW/QT/A/ L. W/A DOM BLADDER RELEASE TUBE This invention relates generally to medical apparatus.

More specifically, it relates to urine gathering equipment of patients.

A principle object of the present invention is to provide a bladder release tube that is designed particularly for male patients who are bedridden, unconscious or who are otherwise unable to normally retain urine within the bladder and wherein accordingly the urine will be discharged continuously or unconsciously from the patient.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a bladder release tube that is designed for convenient securement to the male patient so to catch urine drops without danger of the urine spilling outwardly of the apparatus.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a bladder release tube which can be conveniently worn by a male patient and which permits only periodic gathering of the urine by an attendant.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a bladder release tube which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.

These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:

FIG. 1 is a side elevation view of the present invention shown partly in cross section and in operative use, and

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a portion thereof.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a bladder assembly according to the present invention wherein there is a tube member 11 made preferably of relatively very thin rubber or plastic and in configuration so as to be readily fitted over a penis of a male, the tube having one end which can be readily rolled over the upper portion of a penis to effect a watertight connection there around, the opposite end of the tube having an opening 12 through which the urine drops may spill outwardly into a receiving container 13 made preferably of any type of material that will be comfortable when lodged between the legs of the patient 14 while he is bedridden at home or in a hospital.

As shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing, the tube 11 is connected along an intermediate portion thereof to a screw-on cap 15 threadingly engaged over an open end 16 of the receiving container, so to permit easy cleaning out of the interior of the receiving container. The opposite end of the receiving container is externally threaded and engageable to an adapter 17 fitted over the upper end of an outlet tube 18 made preferably of flexible rubber or plastic material.

The opposite end of the outlet tube 18 is connected to a fitting 19 that can be screw threaded to an externally threaded neck 20 of a collection container 21.

In operative use, when the male patient 14 is in a reclined position upon a bed 22, the urine will drip out of the tube ll, into the receiving container 13, then through the outlet tube 18 and into the collecting container 21 which may be positioned upon a floor or stand 23, thus being remotely positioned from the patient. Accordingly, the container 21 may be relatively large and being adaptable for collecting a relatively large amount of urine thus permitting an attendant to empty the same without too great frequency.

The present invention is readily for use by a male patient who may not be bedridden and wherein accordingly the urine may be collectable within the receiving container 13 and outlet tube 18 alone, the collecting container 21 being disconnected and the lower end of the outlet tube being closed off by means of a clamp 24 secured around a lower portion thereof, the clamp being readily openable periodically so as to allow discharge of the collected urine from the apparatus.

It is to be noted that a body strap 25 is secured to the receiv ing container, the strap 25 being secured around the patients body to hold erect, one end of the strap 25 having a soft cotton pad 26 engageable with plastic filaments 27 on the op osit e end of the strap 25 thus providing easy securement. A p urality of straps 28 are connected to the body strap 25 at right angle thereto and being adaptable accordingly for fitting around the patients thigh. Thus the device may be readily secured to the patient whether in bed or while out of the bed.

What I now claim is:

1. In a bladder release tube assembly, the combination of a device for securement to a male penis for gathering urine therefrom, and a device for collecting said urine in a relatively larger amount, and means for securement to a male patient, said device comprising a tube of relatively thin flexible material, one end of said tube being rollable on said penis, the opposite end of said tube having an opening to allow said urine to drip outwardly thereof, the latter said end of said tube being contained within a receiving container, one end of said container receiving a screw cap, said screw cap being connected to an intermediate portion of said tube, and the opposite end of said receiving container being threadingly engaged to an adapter at one end of an outlet tube.

2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein the opposite end of said outlet is connected to a fitting, said fitting being threadingly engageable over a neck of a collection container, said collection container being remotely positioned of said patient.

3. The combination as set forth in claim 2, wherein a clamp is removably secured around said outlet tube so to hold said urine within said tube and receiving container when said collection container is removed from the end of said outlet tube.

4. The combination as set forth in claim 3, wherein a body strap is secured to said receiving container for attachment around the body of said patient, and said strap having self-contained means for being securable around the thighs of said patient.
