SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371,220, dated October 11 1887.

Beit known that I, WILLIAM WESLEY SEL- VIDGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lockesburg,in the county of Sevier and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do de- Clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is an adjustable doubleshovel plow 5 and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of my plow. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views.
My invention is described as follows:
The beam A consists of two pieces, b b, the front ends of which are bolted, one on either side of the draft-hook b', their rear ends being wide enough apart to straddle a row of corn or cotton, and are adjustable by means of the right-and'left-threaded rod C, which extends through the rear ends of the same. This adjusting-rod C has on either end two adjustingnuts, c c', which work against the inner and outer faces of the side beams. Said rod C has also rigidly secured to it a handlever rod, c2, by which the rear ends of said beam b may be adjusted with the hand without the necessity of using a wrench to turn the said nuts. These beams b are of suthcient depth to make them stout; but are quite thin, and will spring sufciently to meet the requirement of the adjusting-rod C. Their rear ends curve down a little and then terminate, and to them are hinged the curved slotted plow-standards D. To the feet of these curved slotted plow-stand ards are secured plow-points E, by means of the T-shaped clamp e, the upper end of which rests against the upper end of the said plow` point. Its shank passes through the slot cl in the said standard, and its washer end rests against the rear edge of said standard, the whole being secured by a bolt and nut. The shank, however, may be attached to one end of the head and may pass on the outside of the said plow-standard. These plowstandards are adjustable in relation to their angles-that is to say, both of them may be set forward or back, or either one maybe set forward and the other back. This is accomplished by means of the rods d, clamps d', and thumb set-screws d2. The lower ends of the rods d are hinged in the slots of the plow-standards. Their front ends terminate in starshaped teeth f, and are pivoted in the lower ends of the clamps d', the teeth being adapted to catch in the notchesf, which are made in the lower edges of the beams b. The thumb set-screws work in the upper ends of said clamps, and are adapted to catch in the notches f'z in the upper edge of said beams.
The operation of this device is apparent. The handles ofthe said plow are secured to the beams in the ordinary way and made adjustable by perforated supports. j l
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an adjustable double-shovel plow, the combination of the beams b b, secured to the drafthook b', and having the notchesffl in their upper and lower. edges, curved slotted plowstandards D, pivoted to the rear ends of said beams, rods d, their rear ends pivoted to the said standards, their front ends terminating in the star-shaped teeth f, and pivoted in the lower ends of the clamps d', clamps d', working on the beams b, thumb set-screws d, working in the upper ends vof said clamps and in the notches f2 of said beams. substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
