Abstract

An animal holder to support the animal in a position for treatment restrained from movement. The holder comprises a frame member with means to support the animal in a cradle member and means to hold the animal in position accessible for treatment. The holder also has a treadle member which includes a tubular casing adjustably supporting an elongated rod. A flexible tie member has one end attached to the cradle and its other end passes through a support on the frame and is secured to a collar adjustably mounted on the rod.

The holder comprises a frame member with means to support the animal in a cradle member and means to hold the animal in position accessible for treatment. The holder also has a treadle member which includes a tubular casing adjustably supporting an elongated rod. A flexible tie member has one end attached to the cradle and its other end passes through a support on the frame and is secured to a collar adjustably mounted on the rod.

2 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures ANIMAL HOLDER This invention relates to a holder for animals and more particularly for holding hogs.

It is an object of the invention to provide a holder with the animal lying on its back and having an adjustable front strap to hold the head down without choking the animal. A further object of the invention resides in the feature of the strap passing over the rear legs and behind the rear legs and may be held at the proper tension by the operators foot. By holding these two points completely immobilized, almost any size or type of animal may be held. Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a holder made from a new or old automobile or truck which is used as a means to cradle the body of the animal.

Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing in which FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the holder;

FIG. 2 is a side view of the holder; and

FIG. 3 is a cross-section of the holder taken on line 33 of FIG. 2 in the direction of the arrows with the animal omitted.

The holder is composed of a heavy wire frame 1 composed of two spaced suspension hooks 2 with a connecting cross-piece 3. Two depending arms 4 are connected to a cross member 5 by means of laterally projecting side members 6. Each side arm 4 has a projecting lug 7 with a screw clamp 8 threaded therein and each clamp has a pair of projecting rods 9 to enable the clamp to be adjusted toward or away from a supporting board or rail 10. The animal holder or supporter includes a base holder 11 which may be composed of a fabric such as canvas or leather or similar man-made materials such as synthetics. The support 11 is suitably secured to the arms 4 by means of rivets 12.

As shown in FIG. 1, a rope or chain 13 is hooked into a hook member 14 secured in the support 11 at one end of the chain with the other end connected to a projecting hook 15. As best shown in FIG. 1, the chain member 13 is provided at the left end of the holder and the right-hand end has a rope or cable 16 hooked onto a projecting hook member 17 by means of an eyelet end portion 18 with the rope passing through a guide eyelet 19 and then dropping down to and connected with a foot treadle 20. The animal 31 can thus be securely supported in and on the base holder 11 and secured by means of the chain 13 and the rope 16. The animal 31, as shown in FIG. 2, is thus held in position so that a vetemarian and other person may treat the animal in complete freedom of any objection by the animal.

The foot treadle 20 may be composed of a tubular casing 21 with an extending rod 22 held therein in adjusted position by a screw bolt 23. A securing collar 24 may be held on the rod 22 by the collar and guide eyelet 25 through which the section 26 of the rope passes.

It is believed that the operation of the holder is obvious, from the description and the drawing. One way of using the holder is to lift the animal 31 into the base member 11 with the chain 13 already hooked in place on the member 14 after which the operator steps on the treadle 20 to pull on the rope 26 to thereby clamp the rear legs 27 of the animal against the body qf the animal and thus the latter is securely held in position to operate on the animal without interference by the animal.

We claim:

1. A holder for supporting an animal in a restrained position comprising; a frame member having a hook element thereon for suspending said frame member from a support, said frame member including vertical arm members and a frame support element connected to the lower end of said arm members, said support element lying in a substantially horizontal plane, an upwardly open elongated cradle member of a fabric disposed on said support element and resting with one side thereof against said arm members, means to attach a portion of said cradle to said arm members, said cradle member being adapted to receive an animal to be treated, a first elongated flexible tie member for restraining the animal in position within said cradle element, one end of said first tie member being secured to said frame member at one end of the cradle member and the other end of said tie member being secured to the other side of said cradle member at the same end thereof to restrain the animal in position therebetween, a second elongated flexible tie member secured at one end to said other side of said cradle member at the opposite end thereof, a treadle member being connected to the other end of said second tie member, said second tie member extending over the animal to be treated within said cradle member and said second tie member cooperating with said other side of said cradle member for further moving said sides toward one another to further restrain the animal in position therebetween, said treadle member comprising a tubular casing having an extending rod adjustably mounted therein and a slidable collar mounted on said rod, said other end of said second tie member being secured to said collar, said treadle member permitting a variable pressure to be applied in further moving said sides toward one another.

2. The animal holder according to claim 1 wherein said frame member comprises a wire framework, and wherein fasteners are provided for securing said cradle member to said framework.

Claims (2)

1. A holder for supporting an animal in a restrained position comprising; a frame member having a hook element thereon for suspending said frame member from a support, said frame member including vertical arm members and a frame support element connected to the lower end of said arm members, said support element lying in a substantially horizontal plane, an upwardly open elongated cradle member of a fabric disposed on said support element and resting with one side thereof against said arm members, means to attach a portion of said cradle to said arm members, said cradle member being adapted to receive an animal to be treated, a first elongated flexible tie member for restraining the animal in position within said cradle element, one end of said first tie member being secured to said frame member at one end of the cradle member and the other end of said tie member being secured to the other side of said cradle member at the same end thereof to restrain the animal in position therebetween, a second elongated flexible tie member secured at one end to said other side of said cradle member at the opposite end thereof, a treadle member being connected to the other end of said second tie member, said second tie member extending over the animal to be treated within said cradle member and said second tie member cooperating with said other side of said cradle member for further moving said sides toward one another to further restrain the animal in position therebetween, said treadle member comprising a tubular casing having an extending rod adjustably mounted therein and a slidable collar mounted on said rod, said other end of said second tie member being secured to said collar, said treadle member permitting a variable pressure to be applied in further moving said sides toward one another.
