FASTENER FOR MEETING=RAILS OF SASHES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 372.645, dated November 1, 1887.

Application filed April 14, 1887. Serial No. 234,793.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM TWEEDDALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State ofNew York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvementsin sash-fasteners, as set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustratedin the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical central section of a sashfastener. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, the parts of thefastenerbeing locked. Figs. 3 and 4 are detailed views of a fastener.

Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.

In the drawings, the letter A indicates a lower window-sash, and B an upper windowsash. To one sash is secured a case or housing, 0. A toothed block, D, is adapted to pass into and out from a chamber, a, in the case 0. To the other sash is secured a vertical toothed stud or arm, G. The block or piece D is moved by a spring, F, toward and into engagement with the stud or arm G, and said block D is tapped for the reception of a screwshank, 6, having a head, E. The head E enables the block D to be moved out of engagement with the stud or arm G, sothat the sashes A B may be moved to open the Window. An inclined head, 9, on the toothed stud or arm G, adapted to glide over an inclined or rounded end or shoulder, h, on the toothed block D, is adapted to start the block and stud or arm in gliding past one another during the closing of the sashes.

The toothed stud or arm G is tapped, as at t, for the reception ofthescrew-shank c. When the sashes are closed, the screw-shank can be caused to engage the toothed blockD with the toothed stud or arm G, so as to lock said parts together to secure an effective closing orlocking of the sashes A B.

hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with a toothed stud or arm, G, and a toothed block, D, of a screwshank, said stud and block being both tapped for the reception of said screw-shank, and said block being made movable toward and from the stud or arm, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with a toothed stud, G, and the toothed block D, of a spring adapted to move said block toward the stud, said stud and block both tapped for the reception of a screw-shank, substantially as set forth.
