V. Larkin AttorneyCaesar, Rivise, Bernstein & Cohen [57] ABSTRACT A pair of golf gloves is provided to facilitate the gripping of a golf club. One of thepair of gloves has a compartment for maintaining the middle, ring and little fingers of a first hand together when gripping a golf club and the other glove has a compartment for maintaining the index, middle and ring finger of the other hand together when gripping a golf club. 7
6 Claims, 6 Drawing Figures GOLF GLOVES This invention relates generally to golf gripping devices and more particularly to a pair of gloves for facilitating the grip of a golf club.
Proper positioning of the fingers when gripping a golf club is often difficult for the beginner as well as more experienced golfers. Various gloves for gripping a golf club have been provided for increasing the grip of the golfer on the golf club as well as to protect the hand. However, the gloves are often bulky and do not facilitate the maintenance of the proper fingers together when gripping the golf club.
It is, therefore, an object of theinvention to overcome the aforementioned disadvantages of prior gripping devices.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved pair of gloves for facilitating the grip on a golf club.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of gloves for facilitating the grip on a golf club having a first glove which maintains the middle, ring and little fingers together when the hand is used to grip a golf club.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved pair of golf gloves for gripping a golf club wherein one of the golf gloves includes a compartment for maintaining the index, middle and ring fingers together when the hand is gripping a golf club.
These and other objects of the invention are achieved by providing a pair of golf gloves to facilitate gripping of a golf club. One of the golf gloves has a compartment for maintaining the middle, ring and little fingers together when gripping a golf club and the other glove has a compartment for maintaining the index, middle and ring fingers of the other hand together when gripping a golf club.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages of this invention will be readily appreciated as the same become better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a top plan view of a first glove of a pair of gloves embodying the invention with the palm of the glove facing upwardly;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the glove shown in FIG. 1 with the back of the glove facing upwardly;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the glove of FIGS. 1 and 2 being worn on the left hand of a golfer;
FIG. 4 is a top plan view of the other glove of a pair of gloves embodying the invention with the back of the glove facing upwardly;
FIG. 5 is a top plan view of the glove shown in FIG. 4 with the palm of the glove facing upwardly; and
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the golf glove shown The left glove 20, however, in addition to having a compartment 22 for the palm, a compartment 24 for the thumb and a compartment 26 for the index finger, includes a single compartment 28 in which the middle finger, ring finger and little finger are placed. Thus, when wearing glove 20, the left thumb 30 is placed in compartment 24, the index finger 32 is placed in coinpartment 26 and the middle finger 34, the ring finger 36 and the little finger 38 of the left hand are placed in compartment 28. As best seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, the compartment 28 includes an indentation at 40 and 42 which help to maintain the comfort of the fingers 34,
-36 and 38 when the fingers are placed into compartment 28 of the glove.
Thus, as seen in FIG. 3, when the glove 20 is placed on the left hand 44 of a golfer, the thumb, the index finger and the remaining three fingers represent three movable portions of the hand. The three fingers in compartment 28 are, thus, easily used together to grip the top portion of the golf club handle. The compartment 26 can then be spread from the compartment 28 to enable an interlocking grip of the right hand which will be hereinafter seen in greater detail. The thumb in compartment 2 4, of course, grips the handle from the other side of the handle.
The right hand glove 50 is also of otherwise conventional construction. That is, glove 50 includes a first compartment 52 for the receipt of the'palm of the hand, a compartment 54 for thumb 56, compartment 58 for receipt of the index finger 60, middle finger 62 and ring finger 64, and a third finger compartment 66 for the little finger 68.
As best seen in FIG. 6, the glove 50 is used on the right hand 70 of the golfer. The compartments 54, 58 and 66 facilitate the use of the right hand in three sections. Thus, the little finger in compartment 66 is enabled to interlock with the compartment 26 of glove 20, the three middle fingers 60, 62 and 64 are maintained together by compartment 58 and the thumb is discretely movable in compartment 54 to the other side of the golf club handle.
It can, therefore, be seen that the pair of golf gloves embodying the invention facilitates the gripping of a golf club handle. It should be noted that the pair of golf gloves shown is for a righthanded grip. That is, the grip normally used by a righthanded golfer. It should be noted, however, that the spirit of the invention can be accomplished for a lefthanded golfer by reversing the disposition of compartments 28 and 58 in the different gloves of the pair. That is, the righthand glove would have a compartment similar to compartment 28 wherein the middle, ring and little fingers are maintained within one compartment and the lefthand glove would include a compartment like compartment 58 of the righthand glove which would hold the index, middle and ring fingers of the left hand together. It should be noted that a tightening band 72 of conventional construction is provided on the rear of each of the gloves which includes a pair of straps which are tightened and loosened with a suitable buckle 74.
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully illustrate my invention that others may, by applying current or future knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service.
What is claimed as the invention is:
l. A pair of golf gloves to facilitate gripping of a golf club, one of said gloves having a compartment for maintaining the middle, ring and little fingers of a first hand together when gripping a golf club and the other glove having a compartment for maintaining the index, middle and ring fingers of the other hand together when gripping a golf club.
