Also, pedestal type candle holders have been developed, that are built-up from other components. However, such other components have not comprised other complete candle holders. Moreover, a pedestal type candle holder thus constructed, has not been adapted for ready disassembly.
THE PRESENT INVENTION The present invention is directed toward providing a pair of candle holders that may be connected together to form a pedestal type candle holder, by theme of a connector member therebetween, and that may readily be disconnected, for re-use as individual candle holders, for providing flexibility in the use of candle holders. No other element, supports, bases, or the like are necessary in providing the pedestal type candle holder, other than the simple connector member that holds together a pair of candle holders when assembled in pedestal form.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention is directed toward providing a novel candle holder combination comprising a pair of candle holders and a connector member, whereby the holders may be utilized individually, or may be connected together to form a pedestal type candle holder, at the option of the user, readily assembled or disassembled, as desired.
Accordingly, it is a primary object of this invention to provide a convertible candle holder combination.
It is another object of this invention to provide a novel pedestal type candle holder.
It is a further object of this invention to provide novel candle holders adapted to hold differently sized candles.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become readily apparent to those skilled in the art from a reading of the following brief descriptions of the drawing figures, detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiments, and the appended claims.
IN THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of one of the candle holders, of a pair of candle holders, in accordance with this invention, with a candle of one size being held thereby.
FIG. 2 is a view of the candle holder of FIG. 1, in inverted position, in which a candle of a different size is held thereby.
FIG. 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken through a pedestal type candle holder, constructed of the pair of holders illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, connected together by a connector member.
FIG. 4 is a view similar to that of FIG. 3, but with the individual holders of the pair of holders of FIGS. 1 and 2 being inverted, and connected together by a differently sized connector member from that of FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a view similar to that of each of FIGS. 3 and 4, but with the candle holders of FIGS. 1 and 2 being connected by a different type of connector. member.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to the drawings in detail, reference is first made to FIG. 1, wherein there is illustrated a candle holder generally designated by the numeral 10, as comprising a disk-like base member 11, of right circular cylindrical construction, having a generally blind cylindrical bore 12 in a lower most end 13 thereof, and having a cylindrical candle-holding portion 14 at the opposite end thereof, with the portions 14 and 11 being connected by a suitable stem 15, and with the uppermost end 16 having a generally cylindrical blind bore, hole or the like 17 therein in which is received a candle such as that 18.
In FIG. 2 there is illustrated a candle holder generally designated by the numeral 20, also having right circular cylindrical ends 21 and 24, connected by a stem member 25, with the ends 21 and 24 terminating in end surfaces 23 and 26, which, in turn have blind bores 22 and 27 therein, with the bore 27 having a candle 28 disposed therein. It will be clear that the candle holder 20 is identical to the candle holder 10, except that the same is in inverted position relative to the candle holder 10. It will also be clear that in FIG. 2, there is illustrated the disposition of the holder 20 for receiving a larger candle 28 (for example a 3" diameter candle) therein, and that the bore or hole 22 is not in use'in the illustration of FIG. 2. The converse is true in FIG. 1, in that a smaller diameter candle 18 (for example of 2" diameter) is utilized, with the blind bore 12 not being in particular use in the illustration of FIG. 1.
In FIG. 3, it will be seen that a generally right circular cylindrical disk member 30 is provided, that is substantially of the height or thickness as the aggregate depth of the two blind bores 12 and 22, or slightly less than such aggregate height or depth, and with the candle portion 14 of the candle holder 10 being in receiving engagement relative to the lower most end of the disk type connector member 30, and with the bore 22 of portion 21 of the candle holder 20 being in receiving engagement over the uppermost end of the connector member 30. In the illustration of FIG. 3, the combination of holders l0 and 20, with the connector member 30, is adapted to function as a pedestal type candle member, to receive a candle such as that 28 of FIG. 2(of larger size)-within a socket 27 thereof, and with the base portion 11 of the candle member 10 being disposed on a table top or the like.
With particular reference to FIG. 4, there is illustrated a pedestal type candle holder comprised of the pair of candle holders l0 and 20, each of which is in inverted position relative to their positions in FIG. 3. In the illustration of FIG. 4, however, a larger connector member 31, also of the right circular cylindrical disk type is utilized, disposed within the sockets 27 and 12, for receipt of a smaller sized candle such as that 18, within the candle socket 17.
In FIG. 5, there is illustrated a pedestal type candle construction, wherein the base portion 24 of the candle holder 10 is mated with the smaller portion 14 of the candle holder 10, requiring the use of a plug 32 of stepped configuration or construction, as illustrated, having an uppermost portion adapted to be received within the blind bore 27, anda lower most portion sized for receipt within the blind bore 17, as illustrated. This permits the pedestal type candle holder thereby formed to have a wider base 11 on that portion thereof which is to engage a table top or the like, and to have a smaller upper portion 21, for aesthetic reasons, and also, when desired, to receive a smaller candlevor the like within the socket 22, if the smallest socket 22 is to be disposed within the smaller end portion 21 of a given candle holder 20.
It will be apparent from the foregoing, that various details may change, particularly in the design of the various candle holders of this invention. The same are illustrated herein in substantially the simplest form possible. For example, the stems l and 25, need not be of reduced cross-section, but could comprise a gentle merger of upper and lower portions 14 and 11, if desired, or of upper and lower portions 24 and 21, if desired. Also, the opposite ends portions 14 and 11, or 24 and 21, need not be of right circular cylindrical construction, but could be rectangular, or sloped, or otherwise configured with any desired decorative affect. Even further, the sockets 17, 27, 12 and 22, need not be of right circular cylindrical bore construction, but could comprise tapered bores, or be of any other construction adaptable for receipt of candle therein, even threaded, or tapped, if desired. In the latter instance,
the use of threaded or tapped holes, would lend itself to the use of connector members that are themselves threaded, to facilitate assembly of a pedestal, to be rigid. However, it will be apparent that any suitable form of connection member would function satisfactorily.
One of the features of this invention that, however, lends itself to simplicity of use of the same, resides in the fact that the connection member or 31 may be configured and sized for receipt within a socket of each of the pair of candle holders 10 and 20. Furthermore, it will be noted that each of the candle holders of this invention is itself adapted to receive differently sized candlesticks therein. However, if desired, it will be apparent that the sockets at each end of a given candlestick of a pair of candlesticks, or at each end of both candlesticks in the pair, may be of the same size, if desired. However, the flexibility achieved by differently sizing the sockets at each end of each candlestick renders the same more highly desirable in most instances.
Thus, as discussed above, the various features of this invention may take upon various forms, as dictated by aesthetics or mechanics, depending upon the desired use and function of a combination, in accordance with this invention. Furthermore, it will be apparent that the invention may reside in various commercial forms, for example, in the provision of a kit embodying a pair of candle holders and a pair of differently sized connection members, wherein each candle holder of the pair is adapted to be used with either end in place on a table top or the like, and with the pedestal being adapted to be formed with either the larger or smaller pair of sockets connected together, as desired. Other modifications and arrangements will be apparent, within the spirit and scope of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.
