UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ZOTIQUE R. LA FLI JOHE AND JOSEPH A. LEDOUX,,OF CONGORDIA, KANSAS.
MOP-WRINGER AND SGRUBBING-BRUSH HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,166, dated December 20, 1887.
Application filed June 29, 1886. Serial No. 206,656. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ZOTIQUE R. LA FLEcHE and J osEPH A. LEDoUx, of Concordia, in the county of Cloud and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Combined Mop, Mop-VVringer, and Scrubbing-Brush Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan view partly in section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the scrubbing-brush in different positions. Fig. 3 is a 7 side elevation, taken from the opposite side,
showing the action of the mop-\vringer. Fig. 4. is a detail view of the roller of the mopwringer.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
The object of our invention is to provide a convenient and effective device for holding a scrubbingbrush and mop and for wringing the mop.
Our invention consists in peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed outin the claims.
To the handle A is secured a socket, B, from which projects in'opposite directions two divergent arms, a, which near their extremities extend forward parallel to each other, and are angled laterally, forming the short arms b, in the ends of which are received the pivots of the scrubbing-brush O,which consist of thumbscrews, which are employed to clamp the brush in any desired position.
The roller D, which receives the mop E, is formed of the parts d e. The part e is formed of a hollow cylinder cut away on one side. The part (1 is formed of a segment of a hollow cylinder, with the offset end (1 adapted to fit into one end of the part c, the opposite end of the part (1 being held in place by a ring, f, which embraces the ends of the parts (1 e. A
threaded rod, h, extends through the roller,
and is squared on one end to fit into the mortise in the roller and to receive the crank z. The mop E islaid across the half 6, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4, and clamped in place by the half (1, which is secured in the manner.
already described.
The ends of the rod h are received in bearings formed at the juncture of the arms a b.
The ends of the follower F project through slots j in the parallel parts of the arms a. The follower is provided with a shank, 7.", which is received in a hole bored in the end of the handle A, and upon the shank, between-the handle and the follower, is placed a spiral spring, 1, which presses the follower forward into engagement with the mop carried by the roller D.
The mop is wrung by winding it upon the roller by means ore of the follower, and the mop is unwound after wringing by grasping its free end and pulling it backward, or by withdrawing the follower from the roller and turning the roller in the opposite direction.
Having thus described ourinvcntion, what we claim. as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The herein-described mop-holding roller, consisting of the hollow cylinder 6, with a portion intermediate its ends cut away on one side, the segmental portion (1, having an offset end, ti, and the ring f, as specified.
2. In a combined mop, mop-wringer, and scrubbingbrush holder, the handle A, arms (1, provided with slots j, the follower F, provided with the shank k, the spring l, divided roller D, the removable crank i, and the adjustable scrubbing-brush G, substantially as herein shown and described.
