Lyddane [5 7 ABSTRACT A file device for enabling correspondence and the like to be readily accessible from the bottom of a file. This device consists primarily of a leg supported open boxlike structure, having an adjustable tray member which enables the user to remove the first entered correspondence or the like, the device having alternate positions for the tray member which is supported at one end by set screw means.
4 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures .FILE DEVICE This invention relates to filing devices and more particularly to afile device for handling correspondence, programs and the like. I
It is therefore the principal object of this invention to provide a file device which will have side walls, end walls and leg support, the central portion having a hinged tray member which may be lowered to various positions by knurled set screw means carried within the legs of the device.
Another object of this invention is to provide a file device of the type described which will have an open recess within the forward edge of the tray member, enabling the user to easily remove the correspondence in the lower portion while not disturbing the correspondence or the like that has been recently placed on the top of the earlier correspondence.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a file device of the type described which will have extending legs, so as to support the body of the device above a desk or the like and the knurled set screws will provide support means for the forward edge of the tray member in any of its various positions, the knurled set screws being removable from the legs when desired.
Other objects of this invention are to provide a file device which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will readily become evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a top plan view of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a front view of FIG. 1 shown in elevation, and showing the various tray positions in phantom lines;
FIG. 3 is a side view of FIG. 2 shown in elevation; and
FIG. 4 is a plan view of one of the adjustment screw fasteners which provide support means for the tray portion of the device.
According to this invention, a file device of rectangular configuration, is shown to have a pair of parallel spaced apart side walls 11 fixedly secured in a suitable manner (not shown) to a rear wall 12 and a front wall 13. Carried on the interior of device 10 is a rectangularly configurated tray member 14 for supporting correspondence placed within the device 10. Secured fixedly to the corners of device 10 in a suitable manner (not shown) are support legs 15 and 16 which elevate the tray member 14 from the surface upon which device 10 is placed.
Tray member 14 has fixedly secured to it, a resilient hinge member 17 which is secured fixedly at its opposite edge to rear wall 12, thus enabling tray member 14 to be pivoted upwards and downwards to any desired position which hereinafter will be described.
The front wall 13 is provided with a finger opening 18 for handling the correspondence placed within device l0, and the forward edge of tray member 14 is provided with a similar finger opening 19 enabling access to the correspondence on the bottom of tray member 14.
As will be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3 of the drawing, tray member 14 may be lowered to or elevated to any desired position as shown, the edges of the forward end being supported upon the knurled screws 20 which are removable from the openings of legs 16 when desired.
In use, the tray member 14 when in a lower position as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 enables the user to have easy access to the correspondence which was placed within device 10 earlier than the correspondence on top of the earlier correspondence, thus effecting prompt handling of the earlier correspondence.
What I now claim is:
1. A file device comprising a rectangular box-like structure enclosed on five sides, said structure having a pair of elongated parallel side walls, parallel front and rear walls interconnecting said side walls, a plurality of leg means for supporting said structure in an elevated position, a flat bottom member being hingedly connected at one end to one of said walls, and means for adjustably supporting the other end of said bottom wall member within said device, said means including set screw means.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein a pair of leg members are secured to the rear comers of said structure and a pair of leg members are secured to the forward end of said structure, said legs secured to said forward end receiving removeable set screws, said set screws providing support means for the forward side edges of said bottom member.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein the hinged portion of said bottom member is fixedly secured within the rear of said structure of said device by fixedly securing one part of the hinge connector to the rear wall, enabling said bottom member to be lowered at its forward edge, said forward edge having a recess finger opening for easy access to correspondence placed within said structure.
4. The combination according to claim 3, wherein said front wall of said structure includes a finger opening for handling correspondence placed within said device upon said bottom member, enabling the user to have easy access to the correspondence first entered into said file device upon said bottom member so as to expedite the handling of the correspondence placed upon said bottom member.

Claims (4)

2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein a pair of leg members are secured to the rear corners of said structure and a pair of leg members are secured to the forward end of said structure, said legs secured to said forward end receiving removeable set screws, said set screws providing support means for the forward side edges of said bottom member.
