The unit is mounted by means of U-shaped or L-shaped brackets fitted to the back of the device which mount over and behind the headboard of a bed. The unit incorporates a digital-reading clock, a fluorescent lamp and switch, a radio adaptable for playing of AM-FM radio and a tape player.
The advantage of this unit is that it may be mounted on the top of a headboard of a bed so as to preserve the finish of the headboard while being accessible.
1 Claim, 2 Drawing Figures PATENTEB OCT 1 51874 F/GI COMBINATION CLOCK, BED LAMP, RADIO AND TAPE PLAYER SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an accessory for mounting on a headboard of a bed which incorporates a clock, a fluorescent lamp an AM-FM radio and a tape player.
The advantage of this unit is that it may be mounted on the top of a headboard of a bed so as to preserve the finish of the headboard while being accessible to the control of a person lying on the bed.
The unit is fitted with mounting brackets on the back of the device of a U-shaped or L-shaped configuration which fit over and behind the conventional headboard of a bed.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention taken together with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is an elevation view of the device; and
FIG. 2 is an end view of the device.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT:
Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIG. 1-2 illustrates the device which is formed to fit against the face of a headboard 20 of a bed being held by L-shaped mounting bracket 21 which rides over the top and lies against thel back surface of the headboard 20 to which it is fastened by screws 23. The exterior face of the device includes the face 11 of the digital clock, controls 16 for an AM-FM radio, the dial face 12 of the radio, and an opening 13 adaptable for insertion of tape cartridges, particularly tape cartridges of the eight track category. The interior of the device includes the mechanism of the clock, radio and tape player. The fluorescent lamp 46 is mounted to run along the length of the bottom surface of the device, with a switch 15 protruding from the bottom surface accessible to the person in the bed,
for the control of the fluorescent lamp. A switch 17 is mounted on the side of the device to switch the power source of the radio and tape player alternately to either the line current supplied by portable cord 14 from an A.C. source, or to power the radio and tape player from internal batteries.
The mounting bracket 21 may be of a U-shaped section so as to hang the unit below the top of the headboard 20, or as shown in FIG. l-2, the mounting bracket may be of an L-shaped cross-section running from the top surface of the device 10 for a distance of the width of a conventional headboard 20 and then running in a perpendicular direction parallel to the back surface 23 of the device so as to fasten against the back surface 24 of the headboard 20. Mounting screws 23 may be employed to permanently fasten the bracket 21 and the device to a headboard, as desired.
Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodimentof the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. An accessory for mounting on the headboard of a bed which includes a digital reading clock, an AM-FM radio, and a tape player, together with a fluorescent lamp which is mounted on the lower surface of the device-in the conventional mounting position of the device, said device being fitted with brackets so as to fasten across the top and behind the back of a headboard of a conventional bed, the said mounting brackets being of a U-shaped configuration, with one section of the mounting bracket running parallel to the top face of the device'and with the other section of the bracket mounted at right angles to the first section so as to run parallel to the back surface of the device, and separated from the back surface of the device by the width of a conventional headboard,
each said brackets fitted with holes so that it may be permanently fastened to the back of a headboard of a bed.
