CRACKERBBOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,942, dated November 13, 1888.
Application filed September 6, 1888. Serial No. 284,690. (No model.)
.To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs J. ANGER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crackerdoxes, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in that class of crackerboxes having a glass front and a hinged partition a short distance behind said glass front, for the purpose of holding in place those crackers that are to be displayed. Heretofore such cracker-boxes have been provided with a partition hinged to a permanent and fixed bottom of the box and held at its upper end by a suitable catch. Great difficulty is experienced in cleaning the box, especially that part of the bottom in front of the lower hinged end of said partition.
The object of my invention is to provide a Cracker-box of this kind which is simple in construction, can be cleaned very easily and rapidly, and'can readily be converted so as to be used without said partition.
The invention consists in the combination, with a cracker-box having a glass front, of a removable or false bottom and a partition hinged to said false bottom a short distance from its front edge, as will be fully described and set forth hereinaftenand finally be pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical transverse sectional view of a crackenbox provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the false bot` tom and partition hinged thereon.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The cracker-box A,which is made of sheet metal in the usual manner, is provided with a cover, B, hinged thereto a short distance back ofthe front of the box. The glass plate C is placed in the opening in front of the box in the usual manner. Into the box I place a false bottom, D, which extends from the back to the inner surface of the glass C. A short distance back from the front edge of said false bottom I hinge the partition E to the same,
the top of which can be held by the catch F, hinged to the fixed top of the box.
To pack the box with crackers, the false bottom is placed into the box and the partition E swung back, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l, and then the crackers are carefully placed and packed against the glass front, and then the partition E is swung into vertical position for the purpose of holding the crackers in place between the glass front and said partition, the partition being locked in place by the catch F. The remaining part of the box is then formed in the usual manner. Vhen the box is emptied, the false bottom D and its hinged partition E are removed, thus permitting of the thorough cleaning of all the parts of the box and removing all crumbs, Src., as the box is now free of all obstructions.
In case the partition E is not required, it can be removed with the false bottom, and, when necessary, can be replaced without requiring any soldering, rivcting,&c. A crackerbox can thus readily be converted at any time from a plain box into arbox having a partition.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combinatiomwith acracker-box hav ing a glass front, of a false bottom resting against the rear surface of said glass front at the bottom, and a partition hinged to said false bottom a short distance back of its front edge, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a crackerbox having a glass front, of a false bottom resting against the rear surface of said glass front at the bottom, a partition hinged to said false bottom a short distance back of its front edge, and a catch for holding said partition in a vertical position, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS J. ANGER.
