GODFRIED LAUBE, OF HURON, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
COAL- HOD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 398,410, dated February 26, 1889.
Application filed December 29, 1888. Serial No. 294,925. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GODFRIED LAUBE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Huron, in the county of Beadle, Territory of Dakota, have invented a certain new and use ful Non-Clogable Coal-Hod, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to coal hods or senttles. .It has for its objects to provide a hod which will not allow the coal to clog in the spout when emptying it into the stove. To this end I mount a movable poker in the spout of the hod and oparate the same from the hod-bail. The particular way of mounting the poker and the form of its connections to the bail may be varied. The degree of its motion and the shape of the poker are'also matters of indifference. The essential point is that its free end should be movable to and fro within the outlet of the spout by direct or indirect connection with the pivoted bailhandle.
the same principle. Figures 1, 2, and 3 are each perspective views of a coal-hod embodying my invent ion, like letters referring to like parts throughout.
A is the body of the hod. B is its pivoted bail.
O is a poker, connected at one end to the bail and having its other end movable to and fro within the spout a. The poker may be either straight or be bent toward the center of the spout at its free end, and may have one or more projecting fingers, c. The free end a is its spout.
of the poker requires a guide of some kind to keep it in its proper path. S represents such a guide, consisting, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, of a strap secured to the sides of the hod, and in Fig. 3 of the slot in the crown of the spout.
The connection with the bail may be made in any suitable way. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, I provide the bail with a crank-arm extension, b, below the bail-pivots and pivotally connect the inner end of the poker to the extremity of this crank. As shown in Fig. 3, I pivot the inner end of the poker directly to the bail at a point above the bail-pivots. The bail lugs 0r ears E may be either above the level of the top of the hod, as in Figs. 2 and 3, and permit the crank-arm to pass down on the inside of the hod; or they may be below the level of the top of the hod, as shown in Fig. 1, and a hod provided with a hole, 6, cpposite one bail-lug, permitting the crank-arm to pass to the inside of the hod.
F is a handle on the back of the hod for assistance in dumping its contents.
The operation is evident from the description.
I11 dumping the contents of the hod on the fire, if the coal clogs in the spout, all the op- 1 erator has to do is to move the bail back and In the drawings I have shown three slightlydifferent forms of construction, all embodying forth and the poker will force out the coal.
\Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters GODFRIED LAUBE.
In presence of- HATTIE LAUBE, HENRY C. HINOKLEY.
