CATAMENIAL SACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,47 5, dated November 19, 1889.
Application filed July 8, 1889. Serial No. 316,763. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, VILLIAM R. STEIN- METZ and CORNELIA STEINMETZ, citizens of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catamenial Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an antiseptic catamenial bandage to be worn by ladies during their menstrual period, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of. the pad and the supporting devices. Fig. 2 is a top view of the absorbent pad. Fig. is a section of the pad. Fig. l is a view of the pad-holder and protector. Fig. 5 is a view of the belt. Fig. 6 is a view of one stretching-strap.
The absorbent pad D comprises an outer case of suitable thii'i-woven material, like cheese-cloth, and a cheap highly-absorbent stuffing composed of alternate layers of raw cotton a and wood fiber 1) impregnated with a suitable antiseptic solution. This pad is soft, and the stuffing will resist a putreseent tendency of the secretion to be absorbed. At each end of the pad is a cord-loop c.
The cover B may be made of sheet-rubber, oil-cloth, or other waterproof material, preferably sheet-rubber, (nursery-cloth.) This cover is provided on opposite sides with openings or eyelets (Z (Z to receive the strings (Z (1 At each end of the cover is an eyelet 6, through which the loop-strings c of the pad pass, and on the outside take around the buttons ff on the straps g g of the cover, said straps having button-holes 71. 71v at their ends, which engage with buttons f f on the straps g 9 said straps being suspended from the belt C, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5. The belt 0 fits around the womans body above the hips, and has front and back suspension-straps g g and side straps 7.1. The front and back suspension'straps g have a button f, to which the end straps g of the cover B are attached. The front suspension-strap g passes loosely through a metal loop Z, secured to the belt 0, and has a slide-buckle m, for the purpose of lengthening and shortening, so as to adjust the position of the pad-holder B. The side suspension-straps 70 pass down the hips and connect with the thigh-straps E and keep them in proper position, for the purpose already stated.
Beside the use indicated, the bandage may be used to receive the discharge accompanying child-birth and in genito-nrinary diseases.
Having described our invention, we claim In a catamenial sack, the combination, with the body-belt 0, having at its front a metal loop Z, a holder or cover 13, in which is remov ably secured the absorbent antiseptic pad D, of the thigh-strap E, secured to cover B, the back strap 9 and front strap 9', connected to opposite ends of cover B and to the front and back of belt 0, and the side straps 7.1 k, attached to the thigh-strap and body-belt, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
VM. R. STEINMETZ. CORNELIA STEINMETZ.
