HITCHING-POST.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,617, dated December 17, 1889.

Be it known that I, HENRY CLINTON WIL- LIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lovetts, in the county of Adams and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Hitching- Posts, of which the following is a full and clear description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, lforming part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents the post in position ready for use. Fig. 2 represents the same before being placed in position. Fig. 3 shows the post ready for transportation. Fig. 4 are details to be referred to.

My invention relates to portable bitchingposts for horses or other animals, which can be readily placed in position for use and as readily removed and folded for transportation; and it consists in the construction and mechanism that will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, A represents a metal tube, provided with the screw-plug B at its lower end, the said plug having a shoulder` a and a screw-thread C, by means of which the tube A is readily screwed into the ground at any desired locality.

To the tube or post A, I hinge, in any suitable and convenient manner, the upper section of tubing D, with a metallic band E thereon, which will slip down and fit overthe joint between the two sections A and D, when the same are placed in a perpendicular position ready for use, thus securely and rigidly coupling the two sections of the posts together. It is evident that when the hitchtach the detachable bitching-chain G, pro' vided` with proper snap-hooks; and within and as a part of this chain I locateand secure the lever F, as shown in the drawings. It is evident from this description of my hitchingpost that the chain G vcan' be detached in a moment and the bar F be used as a lever for operating the screw B.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a portable bitching-post, the screwthreaded tube or section A, in combination with the hinged seetionD and vcoupling-band E, all constructed substantially as herein described.

2. In a portable bitching-post, the screwthreaded section A, in combination with the section D, provided with the hole d, and the detachable hitchingchain G, carrying the lever-bar F, all constructed to operate substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
