CHARLES S. HIRST, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
POULTICE HULDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 432,798, dated July 22, 1890. Application filed February '7, 1890. Serial No. 339,574- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES S. Hrnsr, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Poultice-l lolders, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a cup or receptacle for a poultice or other preparation, whereby the same may be readily held in position in a reliable and cleanly manner and air prevented from reaching the affected part.
It also consists of means for preventing displacement of the cup, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 represents aperspective View of a poultice-holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a section thereof on line :10 m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 representsa perspective view of the holder, showing different means for securing the same in position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a cup or receptacle which is preferably ofhemispherical shape and formed of soft rubber or other pliable, elastic, or flexible material, the same being provided with a loop B oreyes O, or both, whereby bandages, tapes, strings, 850., may be passed through said loop or secured to said eyes for retaining the holder in position.
It will be seen that when the poultice or other remedial preparation or material is placed in the cup it may be applied to the affected spot, whereby the material is confined within the cup without liability to escape, and said cup retains its hold by suction and excludes the air from the affected place, the heat of the preparation being also retained by the iuclosiug-cup. The bandage may be placed through the loop B; or tapes, strings, &c., may be secured to the eyes 0 and passed around the adjacent portion of the body, whereby lateral displacement of the cup is prevented, and saidloop or eyes may be formed integral with the cupor otherwise fastened to the same; or in lieu thereof straps D may be fastened to the cup, as shown by dotted lines, Fig. i
I do not limit myself to the shape of th cup. Any vessel capable of receiving poultice or material and holding the same in position is comprehended by said word cup.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi 1. Aholder for apoultice, &c., consisting of a cup-shaped vessel formed of pliable material, substantially as described.
2. A holder for poultices, &c., consisting of a cup-shaped vessel, of pliable material, provided with means for fastening the same in position, substantially as described.
CHARLES S. I-IIRST.
