To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CAMILLE CAEN, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Myinvention relates to an improvement in garments, especially to articles of feminine apparel and the object of the invention is to provide a means whereby all of the undergarments maybe attached to a single waist and to so construct the waist and connect the skirts and other underwear thereto that the true development of the form at the hips will be preserved when the form is completely robed, and wherein, also, the weight of the under-garments will be sustained mainly by the hips, leaving the waist and parts of the body closely adjacent thereto untrammeled.

Another object of the invention is to provide a means for attaching a number of skirts to a single waist in a simple, convenient, and expeditious manner and without developing an unsightly and uncomfortable ridge, and whereby, also, when disrobing all of the under-garments may be simultaneously removed and in dressing simultaneously placed on the person. A

The invention consists in the novelv construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the garment, partially in section, illustrating the manner of wearing the same. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the garment, and Fig. 3 is a partial interior View taken at the connection of the outer skirt to the waist.

In carrying out the invention the corsetwaist A is the only underwaist adapted to be worn, the said waist being gored or otherwise cut to fit closely and snugly to the body throughout 'its length, and the length of the waist is such that it extends well down over the hips at and just below the corset-line, as shown at a in Fig. 1.

A skirt 1-3, sewed or otherwise securely atment comprising the waist A and skirt B- cut in the above manner fits closely to the body the full length of the hips and then follows practically the contour of the remaining portion of the person.

Ahem 11 is usually formed upon the lower edge of the waist by folding its lower edge inward upon itself. The skirt is attached to .the waist a little above the hem, and at the upper portion of the hem and over the seam of the waist and skirt a re enforcing tape or strip 12 is secured, and to said re-enforcing strip at suitable intervals apart loops 13 are fastened, adapted to extend downward,which loops may be made of any desired material. It will be noticed that these loops 13 are arranged in approximately a horizontal and circular series,with the end loops located adjacent to the opposite edges of the opening 18, so that the fastening-band, hereinafter more fully described, may in the use of the garment be brought out of such opening in convenient position for manipulation.

' The under-garments 14: and 15such as skirts, &c.-have attached to their waistbands loops 16, adapted to extend upward, the loops being so arranged that they will enter the spaces between the loops 13 of the combined skirt and waist when the said un der-garments are in their proper position upon the person.

The attachment of the under-garments to the combined skirt and waist is effected by passing through the loops of the said garments and the loops of the skirt and waist a band 17, preferably in the nature of a tape, which is of suificient length to lead out beyond the edge of the back orfront opening 18 in the skirt-waist,whichever mode of opening is employed, as shown in Fig. 2, and the ends of the band are tied or otherwise suitably connected.

It will be observed that as the under-garments are secured to the skirt-waist below or at the lower corset-line they do not add to the width of the hips, and the garments are supported almost entirely from the hips a trifling portion of the weight only being sustained by the shoulders.

The garment is especially adapted for use by stout persons, ini'alids, and persons not able to wear corsets or to support heavy garments from the waist. served that the connection between the undergarments and the combined skirt and waist is readily effected and that but one waist is employed, and, further, that in undressing it is not necessary that each piece be removed separately, and as the garments remain connected when removed from the person the act of dressing is greatly facilitated.

It will be observed that in connecting the garments to the skirt-waist one loop does not overlap another. lhus any approach to aridge or seam liable to be uncomfortable to the wearer of the garment is obviated.

It will be further ob- Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters latent As an improved article of manufacture, a garment comprising a waist and skirt, the waist being sufiieiently long to extend down over the hips and having an opening approximately at the juncture of the waistand skirt, and a number of loops attached to said garment slightly below the waist-line and arranged in approximately a horizontal and circular series, with the end loops of the series located adjacent to the opposite edges of the said opening, whereby the ends of a fastening band may in the use of the garment be brought out of such opening in cong vcnient position for manipulation, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
