UNITED STATES vATENT OFFICE.
ERNST BRocKMANN, or ELLEIon, GERMANY.
SHOW-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,658, dated March 3, 1891.
Application filed July 23, 1890. Serial No. 359.653. (No model.) i
To aZZ whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, ERNsT BRocKMANN, a subject of the King of Prussia and Emperor of Germany, a resid ent of Ellrich, in the Prov ince of Saxony, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Stands, of which the following is an exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a stand for exhibiting objects of sale in showwindows or shops, with an especial view to economy of space and facility in reaching the articles.
In order to make my invention more clear, I refer to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters denote similar parts throughout the several figures.
Figure 1 is an end elevation of the stand. Fig. Ll is afl-ont elevation, partlyin section, of Fig. 1. Fig. 2 is a section through the top guide-rail, drawn to a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a joint at the end of top guide-rail. Fig. 5 is an end elevation of the stand, showing a modified form ofthe displaceable trame. Fig. 6 is a front View of the same frame, the shelf of it being in vertical position. Fig. 7 is another front view of the saine frame, the shelf being in horizontal position. Fig. 8 is a modification of the fastening device for the shelf.
Any number of shelves F', Figs. l and 4, according to requirement, are secured by any means to a frame F, Figs. l and 4, the whole frame adapted to be drawn out. For this purpose guide-rails e e are attached to the upper part of the frame A and project forward. These projecting rails are supported by a cross-piece A', which is stayed to the main frame A by a tie A3, hooking over a beam on the said frame A and attached to the cross-bar A by a bolt e3. The back ends of those rails are supported in a suspendinghook c6, suspended on the back cross-bar A2 of the frame A.
The frames F F contain the guide-irons f f', in which the rollers ff run on rails e c. In order that the frames may be guided perfectly securely on being drawn ont, the angleirons e e', running parallel to and lying over the guide-rails c e, are attached at their front ends to the cross-bar A and rail e by means of bolts e3 and irons e2, Fig. 3, said iron e2 having a projection through which bolt e3 passes,
while the back ends of these angle-irons are attached to the guide-rails by straps e5. The guide-ironsf of the frames F pass over this angle-iron e', thus insuring a safe guiding of the frames F. In order to relieve the top projecting guide-bar e of the weight of the Whole frames, bottom or ground rails cs are provided, on which the frames run by means of rollers f2 in straps f3. The shelves F may be made vertically adjustable sidewise, the hooks eG being movable in their grooves c7at the back, while the front cross-beam A is provided with holes, Fig. 4, into which the bolts e3 may be placed. The ground-rails need only be shifted into the required position, and, if desirable, screwed onto the Hoor.
Instead of providing the frames with shelves, they may be modified in sucha manner that they contain one large shelf or frame, which may be made to rotate round a horizontal axle, Figs. 5 to 8, such as frame G, Fig. 5, which may stand on end in the main frame, and on the articles beinginspected the frame F will be run or drawn out and the shelf or frame G turned into a horizontal position by means of the cogged segment p and pinionp,
turned by yhandle P. The frame G will have a counterbalance-Weight q on its lower end to hold it in its vertical position. Instead of a cogged segment, a segment p2, provided with a slit, may be substituted and the frame fixed in the same by means of a set-screw p3.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- The combination of a frame A, having top guiding-rails c, guiding angle-irons c', projecting out in front and connected to said frame and cross-bar A by straps e2 e4 e5 and bolt es, tie A3, and hook e6 of the frames F F, containing adjustable shelves F F and supported on upper guide-rails e e by rollers f f and straps f f and on ground-rail e8 by rollers f2 f2, said frames, together with guiderails, being adjustable sidewise in fraineA A', in the manner described. In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNST BROOKMANN. Witnesses:
ADoLE ATOMANN, WM. KETTLER.
