Description

(N o Model.) 7
S. P. GRAHAM. BORING TOOL HOLDER.
Patented Mar. 31, 1891.
Inusnfur 44554 W 6M%W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON P. GRAHAM, OF BRANTFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA.
BORING-TOOL HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 449,246, dated March 31, 1891. Application filed September 13, 1888. Serial No. 285,430. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern- Be it known thatI, SIMON P. GRAHAM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brantford, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and useful Inn provement in Boring-'lool Holders, relating more particularly to a removable stop arranged to be inserted between the jaws of the holder at the rear of the tool and operating to regulate the distance the shank of the tool enters the holder, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists of such a removable stop used in connection with a holder, of which the jaws are fashioned to receive and hold the stop, but from which the stop can be removed at will and another of similar shape but clifferent size can be inserted, if desired, and thus the desired object of regulating the distance that the shank enters between the jaws of the holder is attained.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of removable keyed bearings or stops of different sizes, illustrating my invention. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the holder, showing the recess. Fig. 4 shows an end view of one of these hearings or stops placed in position in a holder and the shank of aboringtool resting against said device. Fig. 5 is a view of one of these bearings in section andv a boring-tool and holder, partly in section, showing their relative position.
This invention relates to an improvement in boring-tool holders, and particularly to the one fully set forth in a patent, No. 339,544, which was granted to me on the 6th day of April, A. D. 1886.
In the annexed drawings, D designates the holder; E, the jaws or prongs; G, the sleeve, and A the boring-tool, all of which are fully described in the patent just mentioned, The hearing or stop N is formed with a body part at, which is larger in cross-section than the wing of said hearing. The holder D is formed with a recess 61', to which the body at is fitted. The body 92' of the bearing or stop N is inserted laterally in the recess cl of the holder D when the sleeve G is removed, and when the sleeve G is on the holder D the body or of the bearing or stop prevents it from falling out when the drill is removed.
Having thus described my invention, I clai1n- In a tool-holder, the combination of the jaws having a transverse recess at the inner end of the mouth larger in orosssection than the opening between the jaws, a clamping-sleeve, and a stop, the said stop having a body part fitting the enlarged transverse recess and a wing part to fit the opening between the jaws, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of the two undersigned witnesses.
SIMON P. GRAHAM.
