Description
(No Model.)
W. E. SEPTON. 4 SEWER BASIN TRAP- No. 56,267. Pgtegqed Oct. 10,1893.
UNITE 7 STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM E. SEFTON, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO SHERLOCK, ELMER 8a SHERLOCK, OF SAME PLACE.
SEWER-BASIN TRAI5.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,267, dated October 10, 1893.
Application filed December 27. 1892. Serial No. 456,692- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,'W11.L1AM E. SEFToN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Sewer-Basin Traps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1, is a view of the cover properly located and illustrating myimprovement. Fig. 2, is a detached-portion showing a portion of the bar-plate and illustrating one of the hinge sockets. Fig. 3, is a sectional view of the cover showing its position with reference to the sewer basin, and illustrating the position of one of the pivoted bars. Fig. 4, is a de tached view of one of the bars. Fig. 5, is an enlarged View showing the top or upper end of one of the pivoted bars,'and illustrating the stop.
The present invention has relation to sewerbasin traps, and it consists in the novel arrangement hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings A, represents the cover which is of the ordinary form and is constructed in the ordinary manner, reference being had to pivotally attaching the bars. The plate B, is provided with a number of sockets such as a, and notches or recesses b, said parts being located and arranged substantially as illustrated in Fig. 2, and the numbercorresponding with the number of bars to beplaced in the trap proper. The bars 0, may be substantially of the form shown in Fig. 4; and as shown they are provided with cross-pins such as c, which crosspins are properly seated in the sockets a. It will be understood that by pivotally attaching or hinging each bar 0, to the plate B, independently, said bars will act independent of each other. For the purpose of limiting the inward movements of the bars 0, the backs of the recesses b, are so arranged that the inner edges of the bars C, will strike the backs of the recesses b. The object and purpose of independently hinging or pivoting thetop or upper ends of the bars 0, is to permit said bars to act independently of each other. The object and purpose ot'independently hinging the bars O, is to provide a means for allowing clots of leaves or other dbris to enter the sewer, and prevent the mouth from becoming closed, or forming a dam in front of the trap proper.
By limiting the inward movements of the bars 0, said bars will act as stops against the flood-wood, and prevent the same from entering the sewer. bars 0, are located directly above the, inner edge of the base-plate D, said bars so. located for the purpose of causing them to automatically assume the position illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, and to go back to that position after having been forced inward bypressure and then released said bars swinging back to their normal positions by their own weight? It will be understood that other devices may be employed in independently hinging the bars 0, without departing from the natureof my invention, inasmuch as the object to be accomplished is to independently hinge the bars.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isr v 1. In a sewer basin trap, the combination of a cover and frame, and vertical bars independently hinged at their top or upper ends and means for limiting the inward movement of the bars, substantially as andfor the purpose specified. I
2. The combination of a sewer basin trap cover and frame, the plate B, provided with the sockets a, and the recesses b, the vertical bars 0, provided with the cross pins 0, all arranged as described and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
