SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,467ydEtGdDGCBmb6r 4, 189%.
Application filed March 8. 1894.
seen No. aoaara. mammal.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLF BALENSIEFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State ot New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Breech-Loading Firearms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its objects to provide a new and improved fire arm, the parts of which can be readily detached and the barrel utilized as a cane or walking stick, and to provide novel means for cooking and releasing the firing needle.
To accomplish these objects my invention consists in the features of construction and the combination or arrangementof parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 14s a side elevation of the fire arm. Fig. 2 is a plan view (enlarged) of part of Fig. 1 and showing the catch open to let the barrel drop. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows the barrel serving as a cane. Fig. 5 is a sectional side elevation showing the arm discharged. Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 showing the barrel dropped. Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 5 showing the parts ready The gun barrel 1) has a screw thread 1a to which can be screwed a but-ton or handle a. (Fig. 4) the muzzle h being provided with an end or ferrule portion *5 when the-barrel is to serve as a cane. the barrel to be connected to the cartridge chamber g jointed or pivoted at 12 to the breech portion is having a breech block and from which extends a tube 4..
The barrel is held up by a spring or catch engaging a stud l and when the catch 10 is withdrawn or released (Fig. 2) by the lever 8 fulcrumed to the lugs 9 of the catch 10, the In this position a cartridge f can be withdrawn by the extractor 11 and a fresh cartridge inserted.
The cartridge extractor 11 is' prevented from becoming detached by the screw 17 passing through a suitable slot in the extractor to allow the latter suffi'cient play.
In the tube l is a firing pin or hammer 1 having a split or forked spring tail guided in The screw thread 14 enables which tends to give the firing stroke to the pin:
The split tail of the pin 1 has a lug or shoulder 11. adapted to engage theguide 3 (Figs. 6 and 7) to hold the pin cocked. The
trigger 5 is adapted to move the shoulder 12.
out of engagement with the guide 3 so that I the spring 2 can actuate the pin 1.
To the cartridge chamber at o is jointed an arm or lever 13 adapted to engage or strike against the collar or projection'm of the pin 1 as seen in Fig. 5. When the barrel 1) is dropped (Fig. 6) the arm 13 acting'on the collar m will force back or cock the pin 1. The trigger 5, the free end of which is split or composed of spring blades can be held out of the way when desired by having-its free-end jammed or held between lugs p (Fig. 3). The
free end-of the arm 13 may be heldin proper position by a spring q suitably secured to the gun barrel or cartridge chamber.
Onto the tube 4 is slipped a wooden sleeve or shell 6 and said tube 4 has internal and external screw threads 15 and 16 (Fig. 6). To the screw thread 15 is secured the handle d, Fig. 5, and to the screw-thread 16 is secured the stock e having a form similar to that of an ordinary shoulder gun.
The various parts of the fire arm can be readilydismounted or detached and the construction of the arm is simple so as to be reliable in operation and readily repaired whenarm actuated by the barrel and adapted to engage the needle for cooking the latter when the barrel is dropped substantially as described.
2. Agun barrel combined with a firing needle having a forked or split spring tail provided with a shoulder a ring or guide adapted for the engagement of the shoulder to hold the pin cooked, and a trigger adapted LOO to engage the tail. for freeing-the latter sub "steutially as described.
3. A. swinging or drgp down gun barrel, combined with at firing needle having a, cellar and forked or split spring tail provided with a shculdezga guide for the tell saidguide being adapted for engagement by the eheulder to hold the pin cocked, an actuating spring for the pin said spring being braced between the guide and collar, and enerm actuated by the barrel and made to engage the collar for cooking the needle wh en the barrel is dropped substantially as described.
4. A. gun barrel providedwith a. tube at its breech portion, seid tube having an'interual and an external sc1tew'th1'eed,elsteck secured to one of said screw threedsmind a. handle semace? eured tqthe ether screw thread. substantially as described.
5. A gun barrel provided Withe tube emits breech pertion, said tube having an internal and an external screw thread, a stock secured to one of said screw threads, and a handlese-
