Be it known that I, FREDERICK WM. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenville, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flushing Mechanism for ater-Closets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.

My invention consists in the improvements in flushing mechanism for water closets, herein after set forth and explained and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1. is a side view in elevation of a Water closet embodying my invention. Fig. 2. is a front view of the same, partly in elevation and partly in section. Fig. 3. is an enlarged top or plan view of a section of one of the levers of my device.

In the construction of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, A is an ordinary closet bowl, B the stationary top thereof, 0 the hinged seat, and D the cover thereof, E an ordinary supply tank, F the pipe connecting the same with the closet bowl A, G the valve, H the valve lever, and I the chain for operating the same, all of which are of the usual and ordinary construction.

To the under side of the stationary top B, at one side of the closet bowl A, are secured hangers J and K. In the hanger J is pivoted a lever L, one end of which is coupled to the lower end of the valve chain 1, and in the hanger K is pivoted a lever M, and on the outer end of this lever M is a weight N. The arms Z and m of these levers L and M are in such juxtaposition to each other that as the end of the arm m of the lever M is moved up or down, it contacts with the end of the arm Z of the lever L.

In the stationary top 13, directly over and resting upon the arm or of the lever M is a vertically moving plunger O,which the weight N retains normally in the position illustrated in Fig.1. \Vhen,however, the seat 0 is pressed downward, the arm m of the lever M is depressed until it passes down below the end of the arm Z of the lever L, as illustrated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1, and when the pressure is removed from the seat C, the weight N raises the arm m of the lever M into contact with the end of the arm Z of the lever L, and raises it far enough to operate through the chain'l and lever H, and open the valve G and flush the closet bowl A; the end of the arm 'm finally passing above the end of the arm Z, until the downward movement of the Weight N is arrested by the hanger n. The arms Z and m of the levers L and M are preferably provided with adjustable sections Z and m, as illustrated in the enlarged View Fig. 3, so that they can be lengthened or shortened as may be desired.

Having thus fully described my invention, so as to enable others to construct and operate the same, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

The combination, with the hinged seat of a .water closet; of the pivoted lever L connected to the chain of the flushing valve at its rear end and provided with a longitudinally'adjustable plate Z at its front end; the pivoted lever M provided with the longitudinally-adjustable plate or at its rear end; a plunger operating to force down the rear end of the lever M past the front end of the said lever L when the said seat and plunger are depressed; and a weight on the front end of lever M operating to actuate the lever M, trip the lever L, and thereby pull upon the said chain when the said seat is released from pressure, substantially as set forth.
