- the present invention can be practiced with a wide variety of laser sources, including both gas and solid state lasers, operating in either continuous wave ("c.w.") or pulsed modes. More specifically, the laser sources can be carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, argon lasers or various excimer lasers utilizing mixtures of halogen and noble gases, such as argon-flouride, krypton-fluoride, xenon-chloride and xenon-fluoride.
