UNITED STATES PATENT omen HERBERT G. ROUNDS, OF WEST BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
SOAP-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,033, dated June 16, 1896.
Applioation filed January 18, 1896. Serial No. 575,948. (llo model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, HERBERT G. RoUNDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at IVest Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap-Holders; and
I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is a soap-holder for the purpose of receiving and holding a bar of soap when used on a Washboard or for scrubbing purposes.
It is common to take the bar of soap in the hand and apply it to the surface to be soaped. By means of my invention the holder is taken in the hand, placed upon a bar of soap, and made to engage the sides. of the soap and thereby hold the soap until used up.
Figure 1 is an end view of the holder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a perspective showing holder engaging a soap bar. Fig. 4 is a top view.
In the drawings, 1 is the body of the holder, and consists of a flat piece of wood or metal having on its under side corrugations or ribs 2 and its upper edges rounded.
3 3 are two side bars having their-inner longitudinal surface concave and having on each end a piece 4, extending upwardly and secured to the body 1 by the pivot 5, passing through the end piece 4 and into the body 1, thus pivoting the side bars to the body, so that they may be turned above or below the body, as desired, the concavity in the side bars allowing them to turn freely over the side edges of the body and at the same time be very near it, and also forming a sharp edge along the side bars at the union of the outer and inner surfaces thereof, and this edge engages the soap bar when the holder is in use.
The corrugations 2 serve to keep the soap from slipping endwise of the holder, and the side bars keep it from moving sidewise, at the same time clasping and holding the soap to the'body 1. By making these end pieces quite long they will enable the bars to be turned farther under the body, and thus adapt it to smaller bars of soap.
6 is a thumb-piece upon the top of the body 1, pivoted to it by the pivot 7, and adapted to turn across the body and strive against the side bars 3 3 and hold them in the position in which they may be placed in en gagement with a soap bar.
I do not wish to confine myself to any particular form or style of construction, and any change may be made without departing from the principle of my invention.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a soap-holder, the combination with a body having a corrugated surface adapted to rest upon the soap bar, of a clamp upon each side of the body and pivoted to the body and adapted to turn down and against the bar of soap and hold it against the'body, and a thumbpiece upon the top of the body and engaging the clamps and holding them in the position desired, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERBERT G. ROUND S.
