PORTABLE URINAL. No. 587,803. Patented Aug. 10,1897.

Witnesses:
W ggyw mL. W fl v 'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SPENCER EWER, OF BROCKPORT, NEV YORK.
PO RTAB LE U RINAL.
SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent No. 587,803, dated August 10, 1897; Application filed May 12, 1897. Serial No. 636,264. (No model.)
To all whom it ntay ooncern:
Be it known that I,SPENOER EWER, of Brookport, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Portable Urinals; and I do hereby declare thatpthe following is a full,`
clear, and exact description of the same, reference being` had to the drawings aceompanyin g this application.
My improvement relates to porta'ble urinals for bed use, and is especially adaptable to the use of females, though it may be used for males also. i
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and Claimed.
In the drawings, Fi-gure 1 is a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a cross-section in line x of Fig. 1. i
A indicates a cylindrical Chamber, and B a supplementary Chamber forming a Continuation of the main Chamber A, having a square and abrupt shoulder a at its front'end.
b is an inclined mouth of regular Curvature at the front end reaching far forward to aecurately fit the parts.
c is a fiat and straight bottom, being designed to fit low in the bed, which it could not do if Curved.
cl is an inclined plate extending from the bottom of the shoulder a forward some distance and joining the plate c, the object of which is to facilitate the entrance and removal of the device without disturbing the clothing. The fiaring end of the apparatus makes it easy to reach far back and fit the parts of the patient, thus Catching all the urine.
The urine flows down the flat bottom and into the supplementary chamber B, from whenee it is unable to escape on account of the shoulder a. This shoulder forms a barrier and keeps the fluid from fiowing back, even if tilted considerably, and it can only have its exit by turning the apparatus over on its side, thus allowing it to run out. This is far preferable to devices where the receptacle is bowl-shaped and presents an incline for the water to run forward. Owing to its peculiar structure it is particularly adapted to female use, where the organs are located lower than in men. I-Ience the necessity of a device that is fiat as possible at its front end.
Having Vdescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A portable urinal Consisting of the chamber A provided with a Curved mouth b and the flat bottom c, the supplementary chamber B joined thereto and formed with the square abrupt shoulder a, and the inclined plate d the whole arranged to operate in the manner and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. i
SPENCER EWER.
