THE NORRIS Pmns co.v PNOTO-UTHO. WASHINGTON, n. c,
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
ROSS RUE, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO.
GLOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming'part of Letters Patent No. 613,847, dated November 8, 1898.
' Application filed July 24,1896. Serial No. 000,407. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern.-
.Be it known that I, Ross RUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in gloves, the object of the same being to provide a hand-protector, glove, or mitten especially adapted for use in handling brick, iron, or stone and which will provide a free circulation of air and prevent the hand from perspiringx,
The invention consists of a glove or mitten made of leather or other suitable material, with reinforcing-strips on the front side thereof, riveted or otherwise secured thereto, the said strips extending rearwardly from the tips of the fingers of the glove, upon the back thereof, and provided with a series of perforations therein.
The invention also consists in other details of construction, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings forminga part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a view of the front or palm of a glove constructed according to myinvention. Fig. 2 is asimilar view of the back of the glove. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the same.
Like reference-numerals indicate like parts in the different views.
My improved glove or hand-protector 1 is preferably constructed of leather or other tough material, having reinforcing-strips 2 2 upon the front side or palm thereof, which are secured in place by means of rivets 3 3, as clearly shown. Said reinforcing-strips are continued from the tips of the fingers and thumb upwardly and rearwardly upon the back of the glove and have a series of perforations 4 4 therein, registering with corresponding openings "or perforations 4. in the finger portion of the glove proper, providing for the free circulation of air upon the inside of the glove. Aband f cloth or other suitable material passes around the back of the glove for the purpose of preventing the same from slipping off the hand of the wearer. Suitable fastening devices 6 are connected to the ends of said band, by means of which the said band may be locked at any desired point. A similar securing-band 7 is attached to the end of the glove opposite the fingers, which is adapted to embrace the wrist of the wearer and is provided with similar fastening devices 8.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have devised an extremely simple, cheap, and useful device for the purpose, which will protect the hand of the user in handling brick, stone, or other heavy material and which will also provide a free circu lation of air through it for preventing the hand from sweating or perspiring. It will also be seen that by the provision of the bands 5 and 7, with their locking devices, the said glove is adapted to fit any-sized hand. Also by reason of the fact that the reinforcingstrips 2 are riveted to the front face of the glove the same may be readily removed when worn out, experience having demonstrated the fact that this part of a glove will wear much more quickly than the main body part thereof.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The glove herein described comprising the palm portion extending outward to the tips of the thumb and finger portions respectively,
the back of said glove comprising as means for securing the same to the hand of the wearer, the perforated tips or tabs at the extremities of said thumb and finger tips and the central and wrist straps, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROSS RUE.
