Witywazrw L UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BRUNO BUCHMANN, OF WIESBADEN, GERMANY.
TONGUE-SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,466, dated February 14, 1899. Application filed February 24,1898- Serial No. 671,531. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRUNO BUOHMANN, innkeeper, a subject of the German Emperor, and
a resident of the town of Wiesbaden, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented a certain new and useful Device for Scraping the Tongue and for Rinsing the Cavity of the Mouth, of which the following is a full and clear specification.
The object of my present invention is to scrape the tongue in order to remove the couch having arisen during the night and to rinse at the same time the cavity of the mouth. This device has been shown by the annexed t5 drawings, Figure 1 of which is a perspective view, while Fig. 2 is a horizontal section. Figs. 3 and 4 finally are sections taken on the lines III III and IV IV of Figs. 1 and 2. p A U- shaped tube B has been provided at so its open extremity with an india-rubber ball D,while its closed extremity is provided with a handle E, Figs. 1 and 2. Furthermore, in the middle of the bend of this tube is fastened an elastic finger G, Figs. 1 and 3, while each c5 of the straight parts of the tube B is provided with a flat eye F, Figs. 1, 2, and 4. These eyes F interfere with the extremities of a U- shaped scraper A, which has, furthermore, been put between the elastic finger G and the tube B, so as to be untied in the most easy manner. The edge of the scraper A is directed downwardly. The tube B has been provided at its under side with perforations 0, Figs. 1 and 3-that is to say, in its bent part. Through these perforations O the contents of the india-rubber ball D is forced, so as to enter in the cavity of the mouth with a certain intensity. The purpose of the handle E is to facilitate the introduction of the device into the cavity of the mouth, and it is held by one hand, while the other holds the india-rubber ball D.
The tube B as Well as the finger G and the eyes F are preferably made of metal; but the scraper A is made of horn, celluloid, ebonite, bone, Wood, or the like.
I claim 1. In combination, the scraper adapted to be passed into the cavity of the mouth and I the tube having perforations and connected with the scraper above the lower edge thereof and means for supplying a liquid to said tube.
2. In combination, the scraper of U shape and the perforated tube extending around the same with a bulb at the end by which the liquid may be supplied to and forced through the tube, said tubebeing secured to the scraper above the lower edge thereof, substantially as described.
Signed at Frankfort-on-the-Main, in the Empire of Germany, this 5th day of February, 1898.
