SCRUBBINGBRUSH HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,616, dated April 25, 1899. Application filed November 23, 1898. Serial No. 697,239. (N0 model-l To a/ZZ whom it may concern/.-

Be it known that I, JOHN E. MULLINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at East St. Louis, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrubbing-Brush Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in yscrubbing-brush holders; and it consists in the removed maybe readily and conveniently re-v moved by the employment of a comparatively small quantity of water; and it consists of a,

metallic yielding holder, open at both ends, which is adapted to clamp and hold a scrubbin g-brush of ordinary construction; ahandle secured to said holder and arranged at an angle thereto, by means of which the brush is manipulated; a central supply-pipe secured to the upper edge or top of the holder, the free end of which is bent parallel with the said handle; a spray-pipe extending the full length of the holder and also secured to the upper edge of the latter, said spray-pipe being open at both ends and temporarily closed by screw-caps; openings formed along the length of said spray-pipe and arranged at an angle to the brush, and a suitable flexible pipe or hose leading from any suitable hotwater supply, its free end of which is adapted to receive the free end of the supply-pipe, the two being securely coupled by a clamp, all of which will be hereinafter described in detail.

Referring to the drawings, l represents a thin metallic holder having upper and lower inclined wall-s 2, the terminal edges of which are bent at an angle or substantially parallel to the back of the holder, thereby forming engagin g lips 3, all of which is adapted to snugly receive and yieldingly hold an ordinary scrubhing-brush 4, as best shown in Fig.

The medial portion of the back of the holder 1 throughout its entire length is sufficiently depressed in order that its fiat surface 5 may be out of contact with the back of the brush 4, whereby a sufficient amount of elasticity is given the upper and lower walls 2 of the holder toflrmly clamp the brush 4 after the same had been inserted into the holder from either end thereof.

Secured to the outer surface of the wall 5 of the holder is the upper metallic end of the handle 6, which is arranged at an angle to said wall and is adapted to be grasped by the hands of the operator for manipulating the brush.

Secured to the upper surface of the inclined wall 2 at a point midway to the opposite end of the holder is a central supply-pipe 7, the lower end of which extends downwardly and arranged substantially as the same handle G.

Forming a continuation of the pipe 7 and located on either side thereof and running the full length of the holder is a spray-pipe S, which is communicated with the supply-pipe and is also secured to the upper wall 2 of the holder, whereby the same is held in a rigid position. The opposite ends of the spray-pipe 8 are closed by caps 9, whereby should the said spray-pipe become clogged or need cleaning the said caps may be removed for that purpose. Formed along the length of said spray-pipe 8 are a series of small openings 10, which are arranged at an angle to the said brush, .whereby the hot water issuing therefrom is properly directed through the bristles of the brush, the upper lip 3, forming a portion of the upper wall 2, further operating to direct the water and prevent the same from passing behind the brush or in rear of the holder.

When it is desired to cleanse the spraypipe 8, both caps 9 are removed from the opposite ends of same, whereby any suitable device may be inserted or passed through the said pipe and the dirt or other accumulations readily removed therefrom.

The hose 1l, leading from lthe hot-water supply, is attached to the lower end of the central supply-pipe '7 by a clamp l2, which embraces said hose tightly after the said end of the supply-pipe has been inserted' into the end of said hose, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim is l. A scrubbing-brush holder, comprising an upper and lower wall each of which terminates into an engaging lip, a handle' secured to the back of said holder, a central supply-pipe secured to the upper wall of the holder, a spray-pipe extending on either side of the central pipe, and secured to the holder and ruiming the full length of the same, caps closing the opposite ends of the supply-pipe, said supply-pipe having a series of openings formed therein, and arranged at an angle to the lip forming a part of the upper wall of the holder, and a hose leading from a suitable hot-water supply, and coupled to the central supply-pipe, as and for the purpose described.

A scrnbbin g-brush holder eomprisin g an upper and lower inclined wall each of which terminates into an engaging lip, the back of said holder being depressed forming a suitable space between the same and the back of the scrubbing-brush after the same has been inserted, a handle secured to the outer surface of the said depressed portion or back of the holder, a central supply-pipe secured to the upper wall of the holder, a spray-pipe eX- tending on either side of the central pipe, and secured to the holder and running the full length of the same, caps closing the opposite ends of the supply-pipe, said supply-pipe having a series of openings formed therein' and arranged at an angle to the lip forming a part of the upper Wall of the holder, and a hose leading from a suitable hot-water supply, and coupled to the central supply-pipe as and for the purpose described.
