Be it known that I, WILLIAM" SMITH GAR- LAND, manager, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain,residingat Hope Cottage, Loan head, Mid-Lothian county, Scotland, have invented a certain new and Improved Fuel or Coal Saver, of which the following is a specification.
The fuel or coal saver constituting this invention consists of the following ingredients, which are preferably combined together in or about the proportions stated: common salt, (ohlorid of sodium,) thirty-nine per cent; sodium carbonate, thirtyl-two per cent-g potassium nitrate, twenty-eight per cent; oxid of iron or red hematite, one per cent; total, one hundred per cent.
Although I have given the above proportions as an example of what I have found to answer well in practice, it is to be understood that I do not confine myself to the exact proportions stated, as they may be varied. o
The composition is mixed with water and sprinkled upon the coal, which latter, being more or less porous, absorbs it readily.
Coal or fuel treated with this composition Will burn longer and emit less smoke than at present.
Having now fully described my in vention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
