TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. RILE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Preparation of Paper; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. i
'.l`he present invention relates 4to the preparation of paper, or other similar material, for use in what is commonly known in trade :is the adhesive letter and invoice tile," and the invention consists in coat-ing both sides or 'surfaces of the paper sheet with dine orgni, in parallel rows of equai width, with a blank sp'ace of the same width between them, but with the several rows of gum or glue upon the one side or surface of the `paper opposite to the blank spaces of the other side or surface, whereby, when the paper sheet is folded, the
several surfaces of' guni or glue will all come in tho same relative and in the proper position or direction for being bound in a ,book shape, as is the case with the letter le hereinabove referred to, andto the manufacture of which thisinvention relates. Ln the accompanying sheet ot' drawings a paper sheet prepared according to the present invention is illustrated- Figure 1 being a plan view oi' a portion of a sheet of paper so prepared; and

with the rows of'glue upon one side opposite to the blank spaces upon the other, as shown in lig. 2 more especially.
By thus preparing a sheet oi' paper it is adapted for use in connection with the file herein above referred to, and when folded brings the gulnmed rows or port-ions in the proper direction or posit-ion for bein-g bound; the manufacture of the file is greatly simplified and facilitated, and in a corresponding degree its utility and value increased, and besides a much more serviceable, durable, and desirable tile produced, as is obvious without any further explanation.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Tke preparation of paper, or other similar sheets, in the manner substantially as described for the purposes specified.
