SUPPORT FOR THE NECK AND HEAD.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 673,872, dated May 14, 1901.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLOTTE VON HIL- LERN-FLINSCH, a citizen of Hamburg, residing at Hamburg, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for the Neck and Head, (for which I have applied for patents in England, No. 11,298, dated June 21, 1900; in Germany, dated June 2, 1900; in Austria, dated June 16, 1900; in Hungary, No. 9,103, dated June 25, 1900; in France, No. 289,631, dated June 19, 1900; in Belgium, No. 118,999, dated June 18, 1900; in Sweden, No. 1,038, dated June 18, 1900; in Norway, No. 12,678, dated June 19, 1900, and in Denmark, No. 668, dated June 15, 1900,) of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for supporting the neck and head of persons so as to prevent the former becoming stifi and obviate pains in the head resulting from holding the same in an upright or approximately upright unsupported position, for instance, during long railway-journeys or in the case of invalids, who are often hardly able to carry their heads without support.

In order that this invention may be the better understood, 1 now proceed to describe the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters marked thereon.

Figure 1 is a sectional view, and Fig. 2 is a plan.

A curved body a of circular section is formed either as an air-cushion with a valve for distending it or as a bolster. A suitablyshaped fiat cushion b is designed to further increase the comfort of the wearer. This cushion b is attached to the former cushion or bolster a in a suitable mannerfor instance, by a number of spring press-buttons c, hooks, or similar devices, provided on the outer rim of the cushion or bolster a. The auxiliary cushion b may thus serve as a support for one or the other of the two cheeks or for the back of the head, according to the position in which it is attached. This cushion or bolster a is placed around the neck and serves as a support to the head when the latter is inclining backward or sidewise, thus obviating pain, rendering the person more comfortable and preventing the neck becoming stifi.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a support for the neck and head, an annular roll-shaped air-cushion arranged to fit around the neck, and a second flap or supporting-cushion having fastening devices arranged to detachably secure it to the annular cushion; substantially as described.
