PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS L. RAY, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
ANALG ETIC BAN DAG E.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 699,897, dated May 13, 1902.
Application filed April 9, 1901.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. RAY, a citizen of the United States,- residing at Fort Worth, Texas, have invented-a new and usef ul Analgetic Bandage for Curing Headaches and other Disorders of the NervousSystem, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to appliances for regulating the flow of blood about the head,
whereby headache, insomnia, fever, and other disorders may be cured.
The object is to construct a suitable bandage for treating patientsa bandage which will not be cumbersome or inconvenient to the wearer.
Other objects and advantages will be fully described and set forth in the following description and more particularly pointed out in the claims. I
Reference is had to the accompanying draw: ing, which forms a part of this specification.
The figure is a perspective view.
The bandage is provided with two pads A and B, which are attached to a strap E by means of tacks F or by any other suitable means. The pads are preferably elliptical in shape. Buckles G are placed on the strap E, and the ends of the strap are passed through rings H and attached to the buckles. Straps J and K are attached to the rings H, a buckle M being attached to the strap K and holes being made in theistrap J, by which the buckle engages that strap. The rings H are provided, sothat the strap will not pass across the ears of a person, the rings being large enough to encompass the ears without touching the same. 1 A wider strap P is provided for placing between the straps J and K and the forehead, the strap P serving as a cushion. Loops R are attached to the strap P, and the straps J and K are passed under the loops, so that the strap P will not be displaced.
This bandage is placed on the head with Y the pads A and B pressing on the vasomotor Serial No. 54,989. N0 mOdBL) nerve centers at the base of the skull or in,
the upper part of the back of the neck.
I Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A bandage consisting of straps adapted to circumscribe the head and having a cushion and pads attached to the-inside thereof, and means for protecting the ears from the pressure of the straps, said straps being provided with suitable buckles whereby said padsmay be adjusted to press on the nerve centers about thehead for controlling the flow of blood through the head and the-face.
2. A bandage provided with straps adapted to circumscribe the head,pads-'attached tothe inside of the strap passing around the lower back part of the headat points adjacent to the vasomotor nerve centers at the base of the skull, and rings circumscribing the ears for protecting the ears from the pressure of said straps, said straps being attached to said rings.
3. A bandage comprising a strap adapted to pass around the lower back part of the head and having two pads attached to the inside thereof adjacent when in position to the vasomotor nerve centers at the base of the skull, a ring circumscribing each ear, said strap adapted to press said pads against the head and being adjustably attached to said rings and connected together in front of the forehead whereby said straps hold said rings in place and draw said pads against the head, and a forehead-strap slidably mounted on the inside of said straps for protecting the forehead from said straps.
In testimony whereof I set my hand, in the presence of two witnesses, this 4th day of April,
THOMAS 'L. RAY.
