To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT RAMSEY, of Wilmington, in the county of Mercer and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Method of Fastening Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare that the following as a full and exact description.

The nature of my invention consists in providing iron tenants for the rails of a bedstead and iron mortises for the posts that connect with each other in the post and receive the tenants on an inclined plane, so as to fasten the whole bedstead together by the sinking of the rails without the use of screws or other fixtures on the outside of the posts or rails.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invent-ion I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. I construct my bedstead in any of the known forms with round or square rails. An iron tenant with shoulders on the end as shown at B, in the accompanying drawing is inserted in the end of the rail L and held by the pin or key M 'in the notch N, as seen in the drawing. ceive the end and side rails, the bushes interlock by being notched and dropping into each other which is effected by turning the bush around after inserting it and are thus held irmly in their place. The mortise in the post thus fixed receives the tenant of the rail upon an inclined plane upon which the shoulders of the tenants slide downward and draw the post inward until the bedstead is firmly fastened.` The cast iron containing the mortises (which I have called bushes are secured from turning and held firmly in their places by a key or pin inserted in the opening E as seen in the drawing.

Bedsteads may be constructed if preferred with one instead of two iron fastening in each post by constructing the end rails in the usual way and fastening the iron mor tise for the side rail with a pin or key E, to be inserted in the hole F, as represented below the black line in the drawing.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The employment of bush pieces C, C, locked by the key piece E in the manner and for the purpose set forth herein.
