. SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 723,258, dated March 24, 1903.

Beit known that I, FRANK B. FELToN,a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and,

State of Connecticut,`have invented certain "new and useful Improvements in Golf-Clubs,

of which the following is a specification.

Its construction and operation are as follows:

and 6 is a'gutta-percha face adapted to close the openmouth of the metal head.

It will be observed that the rubber shell 4 is shaped to conform to the interior Walls of `the cavity in the head,.with its front vertical face setback far enough so as `to leave room `1 "for the gutta-percha facet, which face is `held in place by means of the lips lb in the jfront of the metal head l.

Aftertherubbershell is inserted Within ber shell into the interior of said shell to form the core 5. This liquid gutta-peroha is forced into the interior of the rubber shell 4 and through a suitable aperture in the mold (not shown) to form the striking-face 6, so that when cooled it will form a semisolid substance. This construction will impart to the head the desired resiliency which the ordigolf-clubs, comprising, in combination, aV

metal head having a cavity in its front face, a rubber shell Within said cavity, the interior of said shell filled with gutta-percha, under pressure, y and a gutta-percha striking-face overlying the front vertical face of the rubber shell, for the purpose set forth.

2. The herein-described improvement in golf clubs, comprising, in combination, a metal head having a cavity in its front face, a rubber shell inserted Within said cavity so as to leave a space between the front face of said shell and head, a gutta-percha strikingface inserted in the mouth of said cavity and means substantially as shown whereby said striking-face isheld in place, the interior of said rubber shell filled with gutta-percha underV pressure, for the purpose set forth.
