PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM D. ALLISON, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,471, dated September 22, 1903.
Application filed October 7, 1901. Serial No. 77,809. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may oortcern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM D.' ALLISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Tray-Support and Closet for Physicians Tables, of which thefollowing is a specification;
- projected of being swung into position for easy access from any partof the table.
The accompanyingdrawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a table provided with my improved tray-support and closets. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of such table with one of the closetsopen. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section.
In the drawings, 4 indicates'the body or cabinetof a table, the forward end of which is open upon three sides, with the exception of a central post 5 at the end, thus forming a pair of open corners. Fitting within one side of each open corner of the table is apanel 6, to which is secured at its corner end a panel 7, which panel extends from the panel 6 to the post 5. The two panels 6 and 7 are rigidly secured together, so as to form a twosided closet which is pivotally mounted in the body 4 upon a vertical pivot 8 (see dotted lines in Fig. 3) in the length of the panel 6,.
but preferably somewhat nearer the outer end thereof, the arrangement being such that the support thus formed may be swung in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 3 about the pivots to a position shown in dotted lines in said figure. Secured to the inner or free end of each panel 6 is a series of vertical eyes 9, each of which is adapted to receive a pin 10, which forms a part of a trayframe 11. Frame 11 is preferably made of comparatively light skeleton form and provided with a plurality of upwardly-extend ing fingers 12, between which may be placed a tray 13, preferably glass or other easily-sterilized material. Secured to the panel 6 near the'corner end is a series of catches 14, so arranged that each is adapted to receive a portion of a tray-frame when said frame is swung into the angle between the panels 6 and 7, so as to prevent accidental displacement of the tray. In order that each closet formed by the two panels 6 and 7 may swing free of thetrays carried by the other closet, the trays are preferably formed with one side curved, as shown, the other two sides of the tray fitting into the angle formed by the panels 6 and 7. The body4: carries the usual top 15, to which at the end closest to the closets is provided with the usual leg-rests 16.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a physicians table, the combination with the main body having an open corner, of an L-shaped closet arranged tofit in and close said open corner, a vertical pivot for said closet, and a tray-frame pivoted to the free end of that side of the closet which will project from the end, of the table when the closet is open.
2. In a physicians table, the combination with the main body having two open corners at one end, of a pair of L-shaped closets mounted therein, a pivotal connection between one side of each closet and the main body, and one or more tray-supports pivot ally connected to the free end of that side of each closet which projects from the end of the table when the closet is open.
3. In a physicians table, the combination with the main body having an open corner, of an L-shaped closet arranged to fit in and close saidopen corner, a vertical pivotal connection between one side of said closet and the body, one or more eyes carried by the free end of that side of the closet which will project from the end of the table when the closet is open, and one or more tray-frames each provided with a pin adapted to pivot within one of said eyes, substantially as and for the purpose set forth;
WILLIAM D. ALLISON.'
