MAYER AXELMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRESS-SUIT CASE.
$1ECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 745,133, dated November 24, 1903. Application filed April 2'7,1903.' $erial No. 154,387. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAYER AXELMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the countyof New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Suit Cases, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
.0 The object of this invention is to provide an improved dress-suit case one of the side portions of which is divided longitudinally so as to form separate supplemental compartments adapted to receive various articles;
and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a dress-suit case con- I structed as hereinafter described and claimed. The invention is fully disclosed in the followingspecification, of which the accompa- 2o nying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and'in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dresssuit case made according to my invention; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the suit-case open, and Fig. 3 a sectional detail of the construction.
In the practice of my invention I provide 0 a dress-suit case which is composed of three main parts a, b, and c. The part'a constitutes one side of the case in the usual manner; but the opposite side is made up of the parts In and c, which are hinged, respectively,
5 to the top and bottom of the part a.- The part a is designed to receive a suit in the usual manner, the part b to receive shirts and other garments, while the part c is designed to receive various other articles, such 0 as collars, cuffs, due. The partcis' provided with a hinged cover 0 and securing devices 0 of the usual form, while the part b is also provided with a hinged cover I) and securing devices 11 similar to the securing devices 0 5 The part b is provided with a flange or rim 12 which overlaps the corresponding portions of the part cwhen the dress-suit case is closed, and both of said parts I) and c are provided with flanges b and 0 respectively, which 5'0 overlap the corresponding portion of the part awhen the separate parts of the case are closed. The parts I) and-care provided with a lock d and the part b with ordinary end clasps or spring-catches 11 which are secured to the part a and to said part b, and said part b is provided at the top with a handle a. As thus constructed, it will be seen that my improved dress-suit case is provided with three separate compartments, the compartments in the parts I) and 0 being smaller in transverse section than the compartment in the part a,
and the compartments in the parts I) and c are also provided with a separate hinged cover and means for securing the same, and the parts b and a when closed form a cover for the compartment in the part a.
In the construction of the part a I preferably provide a metal frame f, which passes around the inner edge thereof and is secured therein, and this inner edge is formed into an inwardly-directed rim f which is overlapped by the parts 7) wide when the suitcase is closed. The parts 1) and a may also be provided with any suitable frame, and the whole suit-case may be constructed of any preferred material, my invention relating to the general form thereof as herein shown and described.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A dress-suit case composed of two side members, one of said side members being divided longitudinally and horizontally into two separate parts, which are hinged respectively to the top and bottom of the other member, said separate parts of said member forming compartments having hinged doors or covers and being also provided with a lock whereby the dress-suit case maybe closed and secured, and a handle connected with one of said parts adjacent to its hinged connection with the other member, substantially as shown and described. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name; in presence of the subscribing witnesses,this 24th day of April, 1903.
MAYER AXELMAN.
