UNITED STATES Patented April 19, 1904.
PATENT ()FFICE.
LINE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 757,820, dated April 19, 1904. Application filed an ary 13, 1904. Serial No. 188,910. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN LYKKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Line-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to securing devices for ropes or cords, commonly known as line-holders, and has for its object to provide an improved construction of the same that will combine simplicity of operation with certainty of action. This object I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing my improved construction applied to the two ends of a block and with the rope or cord in the retained position thereon. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2 2, Fig. 1.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the two views.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 denotes a block of wood or, other suitable material provided on each side and near each end With the substantially V -shaped jamnotches 2 and also provided in the longitudinal center thereof and a little farther from the ends than the notches 2 with apertures 3,
the same forming a holder for the line 4 at each end, as shown.
In operation the line at each end is first passed downwardly through the aperture 3, thence across to the left-hand notch 2, thence up through said notch and over the block to the opposite notch 2, crossing and overlying the body of the line, and thence down at its free end in right-hand notch 2. It will readily be understood that owing to the V-shaped configuration of said notches 2 the line may be securely jammed therein, thus firmly retaining the same against any longitudinal pull on the main part of the same. To release said line, it is only necessary to disengage the free end of the same from the notches 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim' as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A line-holder, consisting of a block having open jam-notches in each side, and having an aperture therein intermediate and to the rear of the line joining said notches, said block being integral and unbroken on said line.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHRISTIAN LYKKE.
