PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER T. STALL, OF BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO STALL & DEAN MFG. (10., OF BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
FOOT-BALL TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,833, dated May 10, 1904.
Application filed March 10, 1904.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER T. STALL, of Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Ball Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trousers for athletic purposes, and relates particularly to the structure ofpadded garments known as football trousers.
The object of the invention is to provide a light and well-fitting garment of the character described having a plurality or multiplicity of pads permanently secured upon the outer surface of the material of each member of the garment whereby the inner surface will be left comparatively smooth and adapted to fit the wearer without irritation due to the presence of the pads.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment of the character described in which the pads may be conveniently located at the exact places where needed.
To these ends the invention consists in the construction substantially as hereinafter vdescribed and claimed.
Of the accompanying drawings, Figure representsaperspective view of a pair of football trousers embodying my invention and illustrated in the position for the use of such trousers by a wearer. Fig. Qrepresents a section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The material of which the trousers are or may be made, whether canvas, duck, or other suitable fabric, is represented at (1,. To the material a and upon each side or member of the garment are secured a hip-pad 1, a kneepad 2, and a thigh-pad 3, each of said pads being independently and permanently secured upon the outer surface of the material of the trousers by lines of stitching b. It will be observed that the area of the outer surface or cover of each pad 1s greater than the area of Serial No. 197,526. (No model.)
The trousers complete are li ht in wei ht b b i as compared with the most common form of foot-ball trousers heretofore made, in which the entire length is internally padded, at least down the front and sides. Heretofore when attempts have been made to locate individual internal padding it has been difficult to secure them at just the proper locations. According to my present invention, when the trousers have been made for a particular person, the pads which are solely externally applied and secured may be readily located in the exact places needed for the protection desired. Moreover, as above stated, the outside location of the pads does not interfere with the lit of the garment, the inside being left comparatively smooth so as to cause no irritation; but where separate pads have been applied inside a close fit is prevented and the pads are liable to get out of place.
Foot-ball trousers having a plurality of pads on eachmember of the garment separate from each other and permanently secured upon the outer surface of the material of the trousers.
In testimony whereof 1 have aflixed my sig nature in presence of two witnesses.
WALTER T. STALL.
