HERMANN P. VVYSARD, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO BERTON W. SW'EET, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
NECKf'PROTECTOR- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 776,041, dated November 29, 1904:- Application filed January 23, 1904. Serial No. 190,38 (1% m del.)
To t whmn, it In/01,7 concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN P. W YSARD, a citizen of Switzerland, residing-at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in SanitaryNeck-Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and ex act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to sanitary neck-protectors, and has for its object the construction of a broad collar of thin paper adapted to fit closely around a mans neck and extend outward some distance and having its neckopening therein lined with a strip of tiuii'y cotton, so that when pressed down closely around the neck of a person it completely protects his neck during the cutting of his hair and effectually prevents any hairs from passing down around his neck, as they are arrested and held by the flufl'y cotton, and when once used this protector can be thrown away.
The features of my invention are hereinafter set forth and described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top or plan view of my improved sanitary neck-protector. Fig. 2 is a section thereof on the line m a: in Fig. 1, showing the cotton on but one side of the inner edge thereof. Fig. 3 is a like section showing cotton on both sides of the inner edge thereof. Fig. t shows a modified construction thereof with the central part thereof hav ing an overlapping opening therein.
In the drawings, A is the body of my improved neck protector, made of very thin tough paper in the shape of a broad flaring collar. Around in the inner edge A of this collar I secure thereto a strip of soft fluffy cotton B, as illustrated in Fig. 2, adapted to contact with the neck of a person.
use an additional strip B of such cotton on I can, however.
the opposite side of the inner edge A, so that there are two strips B and B, secured thereto,
as illustrated in Fig. 3, I having constructed it both ways with good. success.
In Fig. 4 I show a modified construction of my invention in that I make the collar portion in two sections A and A the meeting ends a and a thereof overlapping some distance, as illustrated by full and dotted lines, and the inner edge of these sections are joined together under the cotton strip B thereon, the object of this cut or opening being to enable the operator to draw the cotton-lined edge closely around any sized neck without causing the outer edge of the collar portion to strain out of shape.
In operation the operator places the neckprotector closely around a persons neck and tucks the Huffy-cotton edge down around the neck, so that while the persons hair is being cut all the particles thereof falling down around the neck are caught and. retained by the cotton strip, so that when the protector is removed from the neck all the particles of hair are carried therewith.
Having thus described my invention, so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United @tatcs, is-- The combination in a sanitary neck-protector, of a flaring circular collar consisting of two sections the meeting ends of which overlap and are joined together at the inner edge thereof, a strip of fluffy material secured to the inner edge thereof, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERMANN I. WYSARI). \Nitnesses:
H. M. STURenoN, G. J. MEAD.
