FRUIT PIGKERS BAG.
APPLICATION FILED FEB.24,1905- gfrzzidw Ni'rn STATES Itatenteol May 23, 1905.
FRANK L. HEPNER, OF OOVINA, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH WILSON, OF DUARTE, CALIFORNIA.
FRUIT-PICKERS BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,837,
dated May 23, 1905.
Application filed February 24, 1905. Serial No. 247,191.
To all 1077,0711, it ntay concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. HEPNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oovina, in the county of Los Angeles and State 0f California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Pickers Bags, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a fruit-pickers bag opened at the top and bottom and provided with means to fold the bottom upwardly, and thereby close the bottom of the bag and at the same time hold the bottom in a straight folded position, and means to hold the folded portion of the bottom in its spread position when the bottom is folded up, so that when the folded bottom is dropped, permitting the fruit to run out, it will not be wrinkled up and prevent the fruit from easily running out or injured by being crowded in passing out of the bag. I accomplish these objects by means of the device described herein and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- A is a fruit-pickers bag embodying my invention folded at the bottom in a straight fold B and held with this straight fold by means of two supporting-straps O, each end of which is secured to a projecting end of the detachable brackets D, which is adapted for engagement with the snap-catch E. attached to the upper open end the bag. The bottom end of each of these straps is attached at a point close to the outer end B of the bottom of the bag, and the upper ends are attached one to each end of the bracket D, and the bottom is thereby held in straight folded position and not permitted to wrinkle up. When the bag is full of fruit, ready to be emptied, the bracket is detached from the snap-catch and permitted to drop down. The open lower end of the bag will not be in a wrinkled or folded condition and will drop down in its spread-out condition and will therefore permit the fruit to easily discharge itself from the bag without being crowded and will not be bruised or injured thereby.
I know that fruit-bags have been constructed open at top and bottom, as shown in the drawing, and have means to secure the same on the shoulder and detachable means to fold the bottom, and thereby close the bottom of the bag, and means to drop the folded bottom and permit the fruit to run therefrom; but I do not know any fruit-pickers bag in which the folded bottom is supported in an even fold by two straps, one at end of each corner of the open end of the bag and the other end of each strap attached to a spread-out bracket, as shown.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The herein-described means to hold the folded bottom end of a fruit-pickers bag apart in an even fold while the same is being filled with fruit, comprising in combination with the bag a detachable bracket D, carrying at each end thereof a bottom-supporting strap, two bottom-supporting straps C each strap secured at one end to a corner of the bottom end of the bag and the other end of each strap secured to an end of the detachable bracket; a snap-catch E secured to the top of the bag and adapted to detachably engage the bracket.
2. A fruit-pickers bag provided with means to hold the bottom folded. end thereof in a spread-out position while the bag is being used comprising the bracket D attached at each end to the corner of the bottom of the bag by means of connecting-straps O, the connecting-straps O, secured one end of each strap to one corner of the bottom of the bag and the other end of each strap to an end of the bracket and the snap-catch E secured to the top of the bag and adapted to detachably secure the bracket.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 15th day of February, 1905.
FRANK L. I-IEPNER.
Witnesses:
JAoonQ. HEPNER, Mrs. JAooB O. HEPNER.
